Invisible City returns with the hotly anticipated reissue of Amajovi Jovi by Durban’s O.G. kwaito giant, Sandy B.  Originally self-released on cassette and a white label 12”, rumour has it Sandy had to remake the tracks from memory because even he couldn’t find a copy. 
 
In its original post-apartheid context, Amajovi Jovi was a sign of youthful subversiveness, rebellious creativity and a neck snapping rejection to the fascist groove of a silenced nation.  While the Pantsulla hustler nods to house legends like Jamie Principle and Pal Joey, its hip hop breaks and interludes show a clear affection for Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle.  At its slowed down tempo however, this low-fi kwaito masterpiece turns away from its American influence and looks towards Baldelli and his cosmos.  Best of all are Sandy’s vocals— deep, melodic Zulu rap, sung flippantly—the way that only a true gangster could.  It now stands as one of the finest glimpses of 90s party music to ever be blasted at the underground parties of the South African townships.

2013年に発表した大貫妙子「都会」のラヴァーズ・カバーが評判を呼び、以降もDennis Brownの"Love Has Found It's Way"のレイドバック・ディスコ・カバーや、平岩が参加したAckky & KH名義での"Aurora"（Chari Chariによるバレアリック・ハウス名曲のカバー）など、リリースの度にメロウ・ミュージック～和モノ・グルーヴ好きの心を掴んできた彼ら。
今回は2015年に7インチ・リリースした"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"のカバーに、井上薫による新録リミックス・バージョンを追加しての再リリースです！
原曲は言わずもがな、メロウAOR古典にしてDe La Soul"Say No Go"ネタでもあるブレイクビーツ・クラシックですが、ここでは爽やかなレゲエ・ディスコにアレンジ。KASHIFが後のソロ作品『Bluesongs』で示したシンガーとしての魅力をいち早く見出した、ブルーアイドソウル・フィーリングに溢れる歌唱が素晴らしい好カバーです。
新たに制作された井上薫によるリミックスは、KASHIFによるギター・プレイとコーラス・パートが栄えるダブ・ミックスで、オリジナル・ニューウェイヴも斯くやのバレアリックな仕上がり。御大による流石の技に感嘆するしかありません！

これを僕は70年代UKラヴァーズの傍流に位置するあのデニス・ボヴェルが手掛けたグループ、ウエポン・オブ・ピースやジョン・カパイのソロ『red gold and blues』、もしくはジョージ・オバン（アズワド）の実験的なユニット、モーションあたりの所謂レゲエ＋フュージョンによるミクスチャー・ラヴァーズの系譜に繋がるまさに’15年型フュージョン・レゲエの最高傑作と呼びたい！
地を這うようにグルーヴするベースライン、煌びやかに天空を駆ける甘いギターの調べに乗せて歌うは横浜の〈PAN PACIFIC PLAYA（PPP）〉のキーマン、カシーフ！各所で引っ張りだこのギタリストでもある彼を敢えてヴォーカリストのみで贅沢に起用。
アーバン＆メロウな極上ディスコ・アレンジとカシーフのシティ・ポップス・フレイヴァー溢れるオリエンタルなシルキー・ヴォイスの融合、それはジャマイカ、イギリス、アメリカ、横浜、名古屋の食材で作られたヌーベル・キュイジーヌのごとき幸せなマリアージュが生み出した、これこそHF（アッシュエフInternationalにしかサーブ出来ない新しい解釈のジャパニーズ・シティ・ラヴァーズに他ならないのだ。

今年も僕のDJバックからHF（アッシュエフ）Internationalの7インチが外されることは決してないだろう。
