The Netherlands has long stood as a breeding ground for groundbreaking electronic music—and The Hague’s own Bart van Rijn is one of the scene’s quietly consistent forces. Best known as the resident and curator behind the city’s revered STUG events, van Rijn has built a reputation as a selector and producer whose sound blends warmth, depth, and soul with an unerring sense for the dancefloor.

Van Rijn’s relationship with electronic music is thus a long and chequered one, and one that’s rightfully beginning to pay dividends after years of hard graft and ceaseless dedication. Heavily influenced by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Underworld, John Digweed, Radio Slave and Richie Hawtin (as well as a host of indie acts), his sound continues to evolve while staying rooted in timeless electronic foundations.

Over the years, van Rijn has shared stages with a diverse array of artists, from international heavyweights like Carl Craig, Luke Slater and Radio Slave to leading Dutch figures such as Joris Voorn, Patrice Bäumel and Bart Skils— a testament to his versatility and deeply rooted understanding of electronic music culture.
Beyond the booth, van Rijn also stepped into programming and radio. His monthly slot for three years on XT3 Radio Amsterdam became a platform for both established and emerging talent, welcoming guests like Jerome Sydenham, Jonas Kopp, and Eduardo de la Calle.

In 2018, Bart embarked on arguably his biggest solo project to date: STUG Music. Never one to approach a project in half-measures, the label sprang into action courtesy of an unexpectedly eclectic cast of guests, with a mini album and two EPs featuring the remix work of Gerd, Perel, Rhadow, Skudge, Works of Intent, Dense & Pika, Chocky & Chambray and a host of others. From dancefloor-orientated house and techno to indie-influenced electronic music, both van Rijn and the label have already won support from Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Sasha, Black Madonna, Jimpster, Joris Voorn, Danny Tenaglia, Radio Slave and Groove Armada. 

An individual who simply refuses to stand still, Bart van Rijn is a name we’re sure you’ll be hearing much more from.
