The alchemical Great Work, or  Magnum Opus, is a term refering to the completion of the transmutation of base matter into gold. It has subsequently been used as a metaphor for spiritual transformation.
It originally had four stages:
nigredo, blackening: corruption, dissolution, individuation
albedo, whitening: purification, burnout of impurity; the moon, female
citrinitas, yellowing: spiritualisation, enlightenment; the sun, male
rubedo, reddening: unification of man with god, unification of the limited with the unlimited.
It is in citrinitas that the Chemical Wedding takes place, generating the Philosophical Mercury without which the Philosopher's Stone, triumph of the Work, could never be accomplished. It literally referred to "transmutation of silver into gold" or "yellowing of the lunar consciousness."
Citrinitas stood for the dawning of the "solar light" inherent in one's being, and that the reflective "lunar or soul light" was no longer necessary.

Bir Vehbi Koç Vakfı kuruluşu olarak 2010-2018 yılları arasında İstiklal Caddesi’ndeki binasında faaliyet gösteren Arter, 2019'da Dolapdere’deki yeni binasına taşındı.

Arter, sanatın tüm disiplinlerini kapsayan programıyla herkes için erişilebilir, canlı ve sürdürülebilir bir kültür ve yaşam platformu olmayı hedefler.

İstiklal Caddesi’ndeki binasında 2010-2018 yılları arasında 35 sergiyi izleyicilerle buluşturan Arter, çağdaş sanatın görünürlüğüne katkıda bulunurken, bu sergiler kapsamında 183 eserin üretimine de destek sağladı.

Arter, Grimshaw Mimarlık’ın tasarladığı yeni binasında koleksiyonunun hem içinden hem de dışından oluşturduğu sergilerin yanı sıra farklı disiplinleri bir araya getiren etkinlikleri, film ve öğrenme programı ve yayınlarıyla sanatı geniş kitlelerle buluşturmayı amaçlar.

Toplam 18.000 metrekare kapalı alana sahip binada sergi alanlarının yanı sıra performans salonları, öğrenme ve etkinlik alanları, kütüphane, konservasyon laboratuvarı, sanat yayınlarına odaklanan bir kitabevi ve yeme/içme alanları bulunur.

Opened in 2010 as a subsidiary of the Vehbi Koç Foundation, Arter has moved to its new building in Dolapdere in 2019.

At its new building, Arter strives to be a sustainable, vibrant cultural hub, making its broad range of programmes accessible to everyone.

From 2010 to 2018, at its building on Istiklal Street, Istanbul’s main pedestrian artery for culture and arts, Arter presented 35 solo and group exhibitions and provided support for the production of 183 artworks in the framework of its programme.

At its new building designed by Grimshaw Architects, London, Arter presents exhibitions from but not limited to its collection as well as performances, events and publications.

Arter's new building has 18,000 square meters of indoor area and houses, in addition to exhibition galleries, a terrace, performance halls, learning areas, a library, a conservation laboratory, an arts bookstore, and a café.

The Getty works in Los Angeles and around the world to conserve and interpret the world's artistic legacy.
