System Failure's first episode explores the writing of electronic music history beyond the Anglo-American female pioneer trope through the works of less known women who produced electro-acoustic and electronic music from the 60’s to the 90’s. Johann Merrich, electronic music artist, independent researcher and sound educator from Italy, author of  "A short history of electronic music and its women protagonists” discusses the process, challenges and politics of uncovering these histories and the erasure of non-white non-Anglo-American women's work in early electronic experimental and electroacoustic music.

This is a binaural rendering from a quadriphonic version for loudspeaker of Rarefaction initially created in stereo for loudspeakers. Scrolling down you can find the track on my page and compare both. Each type of listening is a different experience. The stereo version is made for loudspeakers not headphones (it will break the "stereo image") where the binaural version is made for headphones not loudspeakers (il will break the 360° spatial illusion). Miaux presents new LP ‘NEVER COMING BACK’ on VIERNULVIER Records.
The Belgian composer’s upcoming LP is inspired by the new film score she wrote for 60's cult film ‘CARNIVAL OF SOULS’.
Antwerp-based composer and synth virtuoso Miaux presents her new album, 'Never Coming Back’ on VIERNULVIER Records. The record is rooted in the recent film score she composed for the surreal and haunted cult movie 'Carnival of Souls' (1962).
Directed by American filmmaker Herk Harvey, this enigmatic ghost film influenced contemporary directors like David Lynch, George A. Romero, and Lucrecia Martel.
Miaux meticulously crafted the score in her home studio, relying solely on her two hands and a single synthesizer during the spring and summer of 2022. The inaugural performance of this renewed score with film, unfolded at Videodroom / Film Fest Gent 2022 in Ghent, Belgium. The compositions were subsequently unraveled, rewritten into full-fledged songs, and assembled into a new record entitled 'Never coming back ’, bearing Miaux’s unmistakable signature. The album is scheduled for release on May 3 and will be available on vinyl LP and all digital platforms.
Miaux will perform the album live at Roadburn Festival (NL), offering a pure interpretation of the new songs. Additionally, there are shows planned at STUK (Leuven) and Palmarium (Ghent), where she will perform the film score alongside the film.
