Guest Shows and Mixes

This month's guest mix comes from London based selector Ariane V. She's part of the Common Ground collective, has a show on Balamii Radio, and has played at Corsica Studios, Night Tales, Brilliant Corners, and Love International festival. I heard her mix for Permanent Vacation and loved it! So I'm honoured to have her contribute a guest mix to the show.

Soho Radio 062 - January 2025

This month DJ and producer Ambient Babstation Meltdown curates the last 30mins of the show. She has released on my all-time favs Optimo's label, and has a release coming soon on Man Power's Me Me Me imprint. She also plays one of my favourite parties of the year, Ravenswood For Eat Or Heat on Saturday 1st March in Walthamstow in East London. The Ravenswood tap rooms open up and host DJs all day and into the night in aid of a local food bank. Her mix is great so get yourself down there to see her in action!

There's also new music from DECIUS and Carlita, and some vintage bangers from Underground Resistance, Ron Trent, and a couple of DFA beauties from The Juan Maclean and Still Going.

The first edition of PHANTASYMIX in 2025 arrives courtesy of London’s much-loved Ariane V, a DJ and radio host who represents a new vanguard of generous selectors with an audible appreciation for dance music with depth and character. Beginning with a three-year stint building her taste and record collection from behind the counter at Phonica Records, Ariane’s knowledge and instincts for a great record have only deepened in the decade since. as exemplified not only by a tour schedule that has taken from London to Paris, Berlin and Barcelona, but weekly to Peckham, where her previous residency for Balaami FM saw her sharing the decks and the mic in conversation with DJs including Wallace, Colleen Cosmo Murphy, Mr. Ho and Moxie. 

Taking keen cue from Phantasy’s undercurrent of a ‘psychedelic sensibility’, Ariane V’s PHANTASYMIX blends the likes of Prince, CC:DISCO, Josh Caffe, Hardway Bros and more.

This month on Soho Radio I'm joined by Justy Bee. She’s a DJ based in Brighton who is part of the TAXI collective and can be found playing at Capsule Records. I saw her playing in London last year and loved her set. The first hour and a half is some of the tracks I played at the Ravenswood Collective for Eat Or Heat fundraiser at the beginning of March - one of my favourite parties of the year, so it's a lively one!

Ariane’s reputation continues to rise as her sound becomes ever-more assured. Whether turning up the energy with breaks and acid cuts at peak time or locking in for a heads-down ride, her selections are rooted in a deep sense of groove. Emotive house cuts give way to driving prog, punctuated by leftfield disco, glistening italo, and euphoric piano moments. all delivered with a joyful appreciation and deep connection to the music.
