For the next mix in our podcast series, we welcome a special mix from DJ City live at Gegen, Pornceptual, RSO, Berlin. 

'Johan originally hailing from Stockholm, now residing in Berlin is known for long eclectic DJ sets, effortlessly moving within the various shapes of house, disco & techno. Holding down a residency at the infamous Cocktail D‘Amore party series, he’s become an integral part of the Berlin scene. 

With his musical productions he‘s been equally versatile. Since his debut on Public Possession in 2019 he found a temporary sweet spot in what could vaguely be described as vocal house, but in fact is much more, taking influences from EBM, Italo and electro clash all tied together by his deep, poetic, tongue in cheek lyrics. 

His songs dealing with love, sex, beliefs & life in a modern metropolis are quite likely being cued up world wide by the likes of Gerd Janson, Jennifer Cardini, Perel, Sedef Adasi and Seth Troxler"

The start of the year is always tough and with rekordbox struggles, Johan drifts us  back to the night of New Years Day where he played on day 2 of 4 at Berlin's RSO night club for Gegen and Pornceptual, who had joined forces to celebrate the New Year. 

In the words of Johan. "I played the penthouse floor which was like a secret little chalet hidden in the attic in one of the former factory buildings. I played my music surrounded by dancers and queer monsters and gods that made me feel both lost and right at home at the same time, just how the night should feel!"

Esa is a producer, musician and DJ who has never been one to sit still. He is always working on something exciting and seems to draw strength from collaboration and the creativity of others as much as he does himself. Over the years he has released music on the likes of Highlife, Local Talk, Dekmantel, Bronswood, Endless Flight and many more – his sound evolving based upon his external influences and discoveries of late.

Based in London, he is incredibly well travelled and has worked alongside a number of musicians and bands, seeking to broaden his musical horizons and draw upon the roots of the sound and cultures which have informed his tastes.

As a DJ Esa is well versed, honing his craft on dancefloors in Glasgow where he held his first residency at the infamous Subculture. It is here that this mixtape was recorded, his return to the party earlier this year was a triumphant tour de force showcasing just how far Esa has come as an artist.

This mixtape spans a wide variety of styles and sounds but most importantly is destined to keep you moving and dancing throughout. Sometimes live sets don’t make much sense out of context, yet in this case there is something special captured in the sound which makes you feel like you are right down the front banging that old Sub Club booth.

Ansonica is an Italian deejay based in Berlin.

Obsessed with disco music since she was a kid, thanks to the influence of her mother she literally grew up with spaghetti and Italo disco. She spent several years following closely the club scene in Italy, working as DJ Host and PR at Ribbon Club Culture in Central Italy until she moved to Berlin in 2015.

After a long time of being only in the “backstage”, she has decided to start playing and creating her own "colourful" and authentic music style fully shaped by her taste and personality mixing Hi-NRG Disco with diverse House and Electronic vibes.

She has been playing regularly in Berlin in clubs like Kitkat, Bulbul, Klunkerkranich, Oxi, and Ava Club, to name a few, with Disco Bizarre and Toytonics crews. Her mission is to make Disco glamorous and exciting again and bring the dancers on a fresh, sweaty, fun, and always a “little bit Italian” journey.

She is a member of female:pressure, a transnational online database and network of women, AFAB, transgender, transfeminine, transmasculine, intersex [+gender optional], genderqueer, gender nonconforming, a-gender and/or non-binary DJs, musicians, composers, producers, visual artists, agents, journalists and researchers working in the realms of electronic music and visual arts. 

She has launched her own party series in Berlin all focused on musical and social diversity and inclusivity joining forces with other FLINTA artists.

Clandestino have been involved in Leeds' underground music scene for over 20 years; regularly throwing diverse parties and inviting exciting DJ talent. Their esoteric style of dance music has gained them gigs at some of Europe’s premier club spots such as Renate in Berlin, Stalingrad in Paris, Geneva’s La Graviere and Powerhouse in Moscow in addition to being regular fixtures on the discerning festival circuit. Their monthly show on KMAH Radio is deemed essential and their podcast series is revered world wide for showcasing regular mixes from high caliber and lesser known DJ's.
