PREMIERE: Tim Schlockermann - Multitide [R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings]

Fanzine Records proudly invites Nullptr, the alter ego of Eddie Symons, to the label. We are happy to have him on board to deliver our 10th vinyl release. The Brit has a career that spans over two decades, and he currently heads his own label [d]-tached, while co-promoting Cambridge-based electro night Motherchip Connexion.

The 5-track project kicks off with EP title sharing doozy "ALOPEX". The cut has an underlying dub sound and snappy claps and hits. A futuristic synth comes in that sounds like an emotional robot. It progresses nicely, with a broad range of elements including modulated toms and cymbals, before flipping into a revolving melody and fleeting flicks.

It is followed up with "CN2", and you can feel from the get-go a track with a little more Tabasco sauce. It has a bit more energy and that gutter sound, which is very prevalent. Again, the piece has those snappy electro hits and has this mischievous synth oscillating in the background. The main squeeze here though is the gutter.

Things seem to lighten up with "GeneRec" as it is introduced with an ethereal synth with some deep chords. Elements gradually get introduced as a bit more pace is added with the hats. It has subdued electro vibrations and swirling modulations. A bit of a deeper cut, it could be dropped at any early morning rave.

Before the finale, we have "Wake-Sleep" which has a very sweet synth hanging over it. It has high pitched keys and bumpy rolling beats. It has modulated plucking's which are nearly akin to an early beastie boys sound, it's texture with aspects being taken in and out.

Last, but certainly not least, we have "HEXQ". This cut has a hallowed synth that floats over the electro elements. It has a bit of everything, tinging hits, gutter vibrations, robotic stabs, and melancholic chords in-between that add a speckle of emotion. The synth gives it a down-tempo feel, but make no mistake, it's a layered production that any electro fan would dig.

In the outer reaches of space the station floated effortlessly through the night sky, navigating its way across a dark canvas painted with bright stars. A lost generation of humans had come to inhabit this territory in search of something greater than planet earth had to offer. Here they existed harmoniously alongside different worlds and species, they barely remembered the lives they'd previously led down below on solid ground...

Basic Moves continue their mission to showcase the forgotten corners of electronic music from their home country of Belgium. Making his return to the label for the third time, and the twelfth label release, is Sebastian S. under his Caustic 14 moniker, this time with a batch of exclusive tracks produced between 1993 and 1996. His textural sound shines brightly over the six tracks; a healthy mix of crisp breaks, jungle drum workouts and bleepy electro. To quote the label "these compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek, scrutinising each episode while composing. Behind these six pieces are six keywords that have a story: BWP, PK, Network, D-jacking Zone Elypsia, Planet-E and Brussels! Another fantastic release from Basic Moves showcasing the rich history of Belgium.

‘SLN016’ is a 4 break beat track journey which kicks off the release of the opening track ‘SLN016A1’. Easing into break house at it’s finest with soulful vocals, organic drumming and jazzy bass lines. In his ‘state of flow’ attitude, Erta Ale presents quite possibly his best electro-break house release so far; thick kicks interpolated with chords and disorientating solo-synths, characterized by the other tracks on this EP. Mastered in full analog style by the master Tim Xavier.

Tallinn based producer Olga debuts on LIITHELI with four elevating cuts on a release entitled ‘Krakow Horse Racing’.

Born and raised in Tallinn, Olga is the moniker of a local producer who is active in a variety of music genres. The Olga alter-ego was formed to be a 120-140 bpm project which fulfills “guilty pleasures” of the creator who continuously seeks to develop innovative sounds and ideas through expansive
experimentalism and creativity. ‘Krakow Horse Racing’ sees him join the Estonian based label LIITHELI who continue to provide a platform for local producers following the likes of Rando Arand, Mava & Nebukat, N1MA and the label boss Ali Asker on releases that picked up support from artists
such as Ben Sims, Axel Boman, Italo Johnson, Efdemin, Bruce Forest Drive West, Éclair Fifi and many more.

‘Wedjan31’ begins proceedings with fluttering pads sweeping underneath a breaks rhythm and oscillating melodic stabs before ‘Krakow Horse Racing’ offers up intense synth notes, blissful leads and revolving percussion in this bright, euphoric house cut.

On the flip, ‘‘Friday’ features sunshine filled strings and pulsating low-end balance harmoniously with revolving modulations that progress delightfully throughout until ‘Olga’s Dream’ rounds off the EP with an ambient cut featuring murky, half-time drums, cinematic atmospheres and dreamy soundscapes providing an introspective yet soothing experience to finish.

Olga ‘Krakow Horse Racing’ is out on LIITHELI in September 2020.
