David Mendo can’t stop and won’t stop right now; after hoarding plaudits with his remix of Luca Lento’s ‘Poema’ and going nose to nose with Charles Ramirez for ‘No More’, he now locks horns with Madridista and Ibiza insider Danny Serrano for a pair of portly summer rumbles. Clarisse’s next pleasure principle and guarantee of perspiration is not the first time these two have got together either. 2008’s ‘Coconuts’ picked the lock on the pair’s future path of unremitting, tribally entwined, pump-the-bump grooves that have gone on to time sunrises and sunsets, from 2010’s gibbering funker ‘Yanara’, to ‘Poupea’ ushering in waves to lap at its feet in the same year, and the popping tech jabs of Clarisse release ‘Sugar on the Body’.

Toughened up by the kind of drivingly incessant bassline that sorts dancefloor athletes from weekend drivers, ‘The Bassement’ is a one-way ticket of tribalism pulling no punches, deep house weaponry with slow-burning fire in its belly. Though it’ll undoubtedly benefit from a bronzing come holiday season, you’ll be praying that the party heads South so that the cellar-as-steamroom is the place to be once needle meets wax.

The bottom end to ‘Truesoul’ may have more bounce and give more glass-clinking breathing space. But there’s no let up and no room for tip-toers and toe-tappers, as Serrano and Mendo have taken on the form of the most stylish of dungeon masters. As a criss-cross of vocal interventions from the player’s ball next door goad you into retaliation, it’s a second statement of staying power and modesty made much bigger; the bass remains something you’d baulk at down a dark alley, telling diet and diluted deep house to take a look at itself.

Kabaka Pyramid & Green Lion Crew- Liberal Opposer (Rough Road Riddim)

This is kinda weird but this is actually the first production I have ever released under my own name. I have always produced but under group names such as 2020Vision, 2020soundsystem, Chuggles, Wulf n Bear, Wolf n Flow, Otaku etc 

I have always been happy working alongside other musicians but after 2020Soundsystem recently ended I felt the desire to get into the studio and have a go myself.  I set up a basement crib, dusted off some old machines I've had for years and got busy.  So hopefully this is the first of many mixes over the coming months.

Moodymanc - Joy (Ralph Lawson Dub)

Ransom Note stalwart BAWRUT (@bawrut) returns to the label with a re-examination of his latest LP, presenting the darker and clubbier sides of ‘In The Middle’ in four additional tracks entitled ‘In the Middle (Extended)’.

When Bawrut started brainstorming the material for ‘In The Middle’, he realised he couldn’t keep all the concepts and ideas he’d written for the album to within a decent length. Opting for the classic 45-minute (or thereabouts) long-player, things had to be discarded onto the cutting room floor and others had to be reimagined. On this latest release - part of the Extended Deluxe Version of the album - we’re treated to drawn and out interpretations of tracks that went on to become the hookier, single length shortened versions that made the main LP.

“Mas Profundo” in its extended form of what became “Out of the Blue”; EP single “Sabich” is a clubbier version of what morphed into “Eurocasbah” which featured the vocals of Cosmo; and finally, the tracks “Calima” and “Mentira” take from familiar elements present on ‘In The Middle’, with the latter having the frenzied, flamenco patterns of “Alfredo and Ricardo brought me here” with a touch of psychedelia.

These exclusive compositions can be seen as remixes, reinterpretations or simply an attempt to transform a long track into a short one that fits an EP better than an album listening experience.

Saved Records welcome the ever-enigmatic Greg Pidcock into their midst with a spaced-out, deep house cut that is as exempt from classification as the artist himself.

“Last Night” is a dancefloor focused-workout that comes with a dark and intense energy. That sense of drama is conjured up through echoed synth work that lingers in the background like a half-memory as raw, grainy beats and a deep, fluid bassline swell up the bottom-end. Futuristic FX and chopped up vocals add a spacey feel that injects the kind of left of center personality that has fast become the hallmark of Pidcock’s music.

Teaming up with Ecuadorian producer Andre Salmon on the flip, Pidcock taps into a dubbier aesthetic on “The Freaks R Out.” A more straightforward deep house cut, the track is founded on the rolling, grumbling bassline as flashes of subtle melodies infiltrate a lush and colourful soundscape.

Apollonia's new album is due to drop this Monday and we couldn't be more excited. Tour A Tour is its name and, from what we've heard so far, it's pretty special - full of groovy cuts as only Apollonia can supply. In case you're unaware, Apollonia is made up of three Parisian DJs; Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky.

Over the past few years the guys, who have been friends for years and years, formed a trio based on their b2b2b routines at after-parties and have become a total success. Of course, they were already doing well individually and still play solo sets all over the world, but as Apollonia they have really taken things to the next level.

We've managed to get hold of one of the album tracks as an exclusive preview. 'Mouche Tse Tse' has a hefty bassline surrounded by an array of off-key effects and solid percussion - we've had it on repeat all week, it's such a great track we're sure you'll agree. Check it out below and make sure you pick up the whole album!
