オランダに生まれたSteffiは、現代の電子音楽における重要人物だ。Panorama Barのレジデントとして、また尊敬されるプロデューサー兼レーベルオーナーとして、彼女の作品は様々な形でエレクトロニックカルチャーを取り入れている。
長年に渡りアンダーグラウンドなパーティをプロモートし、2つのレコードレーベル(KlaksonとDolly、またそのサブレーベルであるDolly DubsやDolly Deluxe)を運営してきた経験から、SteffiはDJとレーベルオーナーとしての自然とプロフェッショナルなバランスを確立していった。クラシカルなものと未来的な異なるアプローチにより、彼女のサウンドは特異なものへと達している。
2007年にベルリンへ移住して以来、Steffiのディスコグラフィーは増え続けており、Tama SumoのPanorama Bar 02 mixに”24 Hours”を、それに続くProsumerの03に”Sadness”が収録されると、彼女とOstgut Tonとの関係はより強固になっていく。
2010年にはUSのUnderground Quality から”Reasons” EP がリリース、そして2011年にOstgut Tonからデビューアルバム “Yours & Mine”がリリースされる。彼女のポジティブなサウンドは、2012年の “Schraper” EPでより印象的なものとなり、同時に彼女の才能を知らしめることにもなったのである。クラシックなハウスとモダンなテクノの間を漂うような低音が強調されたトラックメイキングが特徴だ。
またRedshapeとの共作や、The Analogue Copsとしても知られるLucretio、MarieuとのユニットThird SideとしてもRestoration Records から Unified Fields LP リリース、ライブジャムのダイナミクスを探求した。
Panorama Bar のレジデントとして、Steffi は 2013 年に Panorama Bar 05 Mix CDをエディット、ミキシングし、また2014年にはセカンドアルバム”Power Of Anonymity”をOstgut Tonよりリリース、その後もFabricのミックスシリーズやMartynやVirginiaとの共作等、数々の制作をこなす。その傍ら、世界各地のクラブ、フェスティバルへ出演し、膨大なコレクションから繰り出されるDJセットではジャンルやムードを完璧なまでにブレンドし物語を創出、ライブショーを含む慎重にキュレートされたツアースケジュールにおいて、彼女の作品はあらゆるパフォーマンスで輝いている。彼女のDJ活動や制作、レーベルワーク等は現代の電子音楽の文化を称える彼女の深い情熱を反映しているのだ。

Steffi does not do things by halves, and this unwavering commitment to growing and challenging herself as a producer, DJ and label head has kept her at the forefront of contemporary dance music since the mid 90s. Born in the Netherlands, a move to Berlin led to an enduring residency at the city’s emblematic Berghain/Panoramabar, an experience that has translated effortlessly to the international clubs and festivals – big and small – at which she has long been a staple. As a producer, Steffi has an extensive discography that takes in albums, singles and remixes – solo and
in collaboration – released by respected labels including Ostgut Ton, 3024, Dark Entries, Ed Banger and Because Music. Steffi’s long-running labels Klakson and Dolly continue to release a distinct blend of electro, breaks, Chicago and Detroit house and techno to this day. In recent years, Steffi’s
tireless search for new ground has been made tangible in a permanent move to Portugal where,with Virginia, she founded the label, studio space and creative hub Candy Mountain.

ーDJ MIXはどこで録音したのですか？

ーDJ MIXのコンセプトについて教えてください。

いつもDJ MIXを作るときはダンスフロアと関係ないものを作って、普段のセットと違って日の目を見ないトラックを入れるようにしています。今回はアップテンポのテクノっぽいミックスを作ろうと思って、久しぶりにやってみたんですが、気分転換になったのでよかったです。素晴らしい新譜や古い曲をミックスしました。

ー今後の活動についてお聞かせください。

今は、先週月曜日に発売された新しいアルバム「The Red Hunter」のプロモーションのために、新しいライブツアーを行っているところです。1月は少し休んで、新しいプロジェクトのために完全に休んで戻ってくる予定です。<Candy Mountain>はレーベルであり、スタジオスペースであり、クリエイティブハブでもあります。スタジオは自然の中にあり、アーティストは同じ屋根の下、静かな環境の中で気晴らしをしながら仕事をすることができます。ここポルトガルのローカルなシーンとつながりながら仕事をするのに最適なスペースです。2023年にもっと多くの人を受け入れて、クリエイティブな雰囲気を盛り上げていけるように微調整しているところです。

Andreas Baumecker launched his DJ career in the early 90s, a Frankfurt native coming of age in the halcyon days of his country’s reunification. His first stop was the city’s storied and centrally located Romantica, then its affiliate Intimbar where reps from house label Playhouse picked him up for buying duties at record store Delirium. After an uptick in local bookings, he made a brief stop in Mannheim for more of the same before moving to Berlin in 2004, where a recently opened Panorama Bar scouted him as resident and offered him the role of in-house booker for its Berghain operations. As word got out and the city started to draw larger crowds he became a fundamental force in crafting the club’s story. Hesitant to define the upstairs-downstairs split as house and techno, he practices his preachings through an approach that embraces a range of different sounds. ‘Surprise is important’ and his 25,000 strong vinyl collection lends a hand in the process, an assemblage that oscillates between disco, house, electro, techno, breakbeat and pop; the key is to capture the spirit of a crowd. This strategy has borne not only his label Freundinnen (put on hiatus in 2007, relaunched in 2023), but a lasting collaboration with sparring partner Sam Barker as half or Barker and Baumecker (four 12” records and two albums on his alma mater’s imprint Ostgut Ton to prove it). nd_baumecker deals in all things funky and uplifting, a thread of life-affirming melodies and historically literate beats that drive seamlessly forward. Bassiani Podcast 255 alludes to his well stocked portfolio of references, with hints of disco and balearic house, it's more of what his fans know and love to usher in the warmer months; this latest episode is full of spacey tenor, refreshing and gently rolling, breezy chill-out expertly compiled by this fabled German veteran.

Bassiani invites nd_baumecker / Podcast #255

Recorded live at Horoom in mid-March comes this next instalment from Copenhagen representative Martin Gilleshøj. The DJ, co-founder of KUNE music and arts festival, co-founder of Axces Recordings (and their event series), and head at vinyl dispensary Proton Records is a bulwark of the Danish scene. Alongside pals like previous Bassiani Podcast guest Kasper Marott, Søren Kinch and Popmix he’s been key to his city’s cultural offer, blending groovy dancefloor tracks irrespective of narrow genre categorisations with a focus on high-energy nighttime turnouts. It’s a witty spin on clubland fare, iconoclastic and highly danceable stuff that keeps the happy chemicals unanimously flowing. Another plate to spin: he also now runs Buttheads, an intimate club series turned into a record label for the work of selected friends. Through all these outlets, Martin unravels the common thread that binds his work together, laying open a mix of styles and developing something fresh in their coming together. For Bassiani Podcast 261 Gilleshøj flexes his DJ muscles and delivers three hours of wobbly prime time bangers. Fluid, shapeshifting and soulful rhythms, slick selecting flawlessly woven together, a gradual build that perfectly epitomises Horoom’s spirit. This is a sweaty, long haul set from the Danish polymath and clubfloor mischief-maker.

B2B with Helena Hauff Live at Trädgården, Stockholm

After visiting the lakeside dreamland last year I couldn't help myself but imagine on the moment what I would play if I had the opportunity to perform there myself (as any DJ would, I guess). I had different archetypes of sets forming in the back of my mind for different times of the day possible, if the opportunity ever came one day. 
So when I got invited to play the opening of Floresta on Sunday, it first came as a bit of a surprise, but the surprise turned into excitement and it was time to prepare a special set where I could dig into my dub techno collection. 
So, I am very happy to share with you the recording of my set, where I finally had the chance to play slow, deep, dubby and sunny techno in such a setting.

Vril spoils us on his Bleep mix. All of the tracks delivered by the German producer here are either Vril originals or remixed by him, and almost all of this material is unreleased at the time of writing. A generous offering indeed, but what’s more impressive still is how Vril knits together these broken-beat techno joints into a cinematic whole, one which maintains a propulsive forward thrust even as it explores dub-techno scientifics, dystopian synthscapes and the keys-led quirkiness of late-90s IDM. The fact that Vril bookends the mix with passages of weightless, widescreen ambience emphasises the evocative qualities of his music still further.
