Tokyo’s Risa Taniguchi returns to Chris Liebing’s CLR with the ‘So Loud’ EP. The two-track EP follows up a collaborative EP with Black Asteroid on the label in 2022.

Risa Taniguchi’s title track to her ‘So Loud’ EP on CLR is a brilliantly alluring, stripped-back workout built on thudding kicks. The twitchy synth motifs bring a foreboding atmosphere next to raw percussion, all elements creeping in intensity. The electrifying 'Emission' brings more nervous energy with fizzing synths layering in rich texture over clacking hits and rolling bass. At the forefront of the Japanese techno scene, Risa Taniguchi’s music on labels like Second State and Kneaded Pains mixes dark, lo-fi sound, distorted textures, and slow-burning energy that always hits its mark. She first arrived on Chris Liebing’s CLR in 2022 alongside Black Asteroid with the ‘Acid Flesh’ EP, which won the support of artists like Luke Slater, Blawan, Amelie Lens, and many more - once again excelling with her solo ‘So Loud’ EP this May.

Björn Torwellen’s ‘Binary Fate’ EP kickstarts CLR’s 2025 with three pounding Techno tracks 31st January 2025. From the razor-sharp percussion and raw bassline power in title track ‘Binary Fate’, to the cavernous dub hits and shadowy atmospheres of ‘Fear of the Unknown’, before closing on the mind-warping signals of ‘Lost in Transmission’ - Torwellen’s ‘Binary Fate’ is yet another supersized debut on the seminal CLR.

Following Björn Torwellen’s appearance on the CLR podcast in June 2024, the Cologne-based artist now definitively joins Chris Liebing’s label with the ‘Binary Fate’ three-tracker this January. With a career spanning over two decades, Björn is known for his discography on labels like De-Konstrukt, Nachtstrom Schallplatten, nonlinear systems, and now CLR.

Founded by influential techno lynchpin Chris Liebing in 1999 and reemerging in 2021 after a five-year hiatus, Create Learn Repeat (CLR) has hosted a range of artists like Shlomi Aber, Dubfire, Flug, Bjarki, DJ Dextro and more while also focusing on developing newer acts in the scene such as Risa Taniguchi, The Southern, and Klint.

With the comeback of his moniker, Polyvinyl, UMEK goes back to his hardgroove origins. In addition, he is starting a new record label called 1605 GrooveSector, which will specialise in raw techno and hardgroove.

Slovenian-born UMEK has a career that dates back to the 1990s, when he was among the musicians that helped create and pioneer the first hardgroove movement. His iconic Recycled Loops project produced a number of groundbreaking songs that shaped the modern genre.

UMEK’s music has changed throughout the course of his three-decade career to reflect contemporary styles, and he has continued to be one of the most significant techno artists. His career is coming full circle with the return of the Polyvinyl pseudonym, and he is once again embracing the improvisational production style that once brought him international recognition.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the title track “Mechanically Intensive” with a rolling bassline and filtered percussion. Jerking synth stabs are added to boost the offbeat energy, but it’s the timeless, tribal and schranz-like rhythms that create the throwback, dance floor burning sound.
