PREMIERE: Hassan Abou Alam - Breathe (Naive)

Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Ayesha (@aye5ha) lines up a four-track EP with Scuffed Recordings, channelling percussive techno, breaks, and bass.

The Potential Energy EP bears all the hallmarks of the sonic universe that Ayesha has made her own on previous releases for the likes of Fever AM, Kindergarten Records, Control Freak, and Daytimers.

Aptly-named opener ‘Potential Energy’ is a rallying cry for the current moment in dance music, as clubs in parts of the world begin to open and ravers release the pent-up energy of the past eighteen months.

‘Ecstatic Descent’ is up next and lives up to its title with euphoric arpeggios sprinkled liberally over heavy, syncopated breaks.

Third track ‘We Be Bubblin’ encapsulates Ayesha’s approach to sound design and sample selection, with playful bubbling sounds and vocodered vocals dancing over driving percussion.

Ending the EP is ‘Dark Matter’, the fastest and heaviest track of the bunch, which saw its first outing during Yung Singh’s already-legendary Boiler Room set as part of the Daytimers takeover.

Mysterious supergroup Protect Ryan (@protectryan) make their HOMAGE debut with the 'Self-proclaimed Critically Acclaimed' EP, featuring four original rave bangers paired with remixes from five of the scene's most trusted underground producers. 

Protect Ryan unites three friends (all veteran producers) that first came together through their shared love of '90s rave culture. Their debut EP arrived on DJ Die's GutterFunk label and introduced the world to their distinct ethos, producing club-ready cuts that inject the dancefloor with big energy. Now they expand on their story with the purest form of their dynamic sound, the 'Self-proclaimed Critically Acclaimed' EP on HOMAGE. 

Leading off with 'Bro Magnum', Protect Ryan launch into an all-out assault of banging breakbeats and growling bass before a squelching acid line takes over. Then comes 'Liam Features', a track also forthcoming on TSHA's fabric presents compilation, which follows with more rouged rhythms paired with playful stabs transporting listeners back to the golden age of rave. Next is 'Senhor Whep' and its nostalgic drum breaks that lay the foundation for an absolutely naughty acid line building into peak time euphoria. Finally, rounding out the Protect Ryan originals is 'Unfinished BTEC' delivering the trio's most refined sound, with tight percussion and chopped vocals stacked on top of a smooth, deep, and emotive bass line. 

While the originals are enough to satisfy anyone's thirst for rave-ready anthems, the release is complete with a staggering collection of remixes. Building on the energy that was already laid out, Apparition (@apparition-noise) speeds up the bpm with their version of 'Bro Magnum' for a hyper bass banger. Then Club Glow's own Denham Audio (@denhamaudio) takes on 'Liam Features' with his signature breakbeat NRG before Boulderhead (@boulderheaduk) flips the same track into a bumping house cut highlighting the original's infectious bassline. Finishing off the release are two remixes of 'Unfinished BTEC', first by HOMAGE label co-founder Ryan Clover (@ryanclover) who's hard-hitting version highlights the deep squelchy bass and chopped percussion while Davis Galvin (@davisgalvin) delivers a sublime and ethereal downtempo chugger.

Typeless. Undefinable. Divergent. The adjectives used to describe musical anatomy and direction are irrevocably inexhaustible, but as sure as the sun will rise again, we will remain Typeless. We’ve spent the days regrouping, realigning and now we finally can release a record that is dear to us and has simply been a ridiculously long time coming.
The ascension of Viers is well charted, and having already played a part in that indomitable sonic crusade we once again submit to his gripping vibrations as he distils them into safe and consumable formats distinguishable to the human ear. The man is untethered and the tunes are disrespectful. We are unapologetic.
6 tracks and no punches pulled, the bruising of egos and maybe some self-assuredness is at hand. Smashed veneers everywhere no thanks to Viers. Now watch out for the title track, underpinned by devastating kicks and exacerbated by gritty chords, it is befitting of soundtrack to a subterranean aesthetic. Next comes ‘Floris’, an IDM-inclined electro journey, but with the originality and added peculiarities of a limitless entity. Track 3 is ‘Hidden Bone’ and it is almost inexplicable. Shuddering percussion and erratic mechanoid modulations combine to somehow cause an oddly beautiful chaos. ‘Running’ comes in pummelling, the weighty break and modulated keys create a prismic heat ensuring ceaseless head-nodding and heavy breathing. Now, do you hear 140? ‘Tell Me’ is the low-slung bass-weight weapon you forgot you needed. Holiday in the mind of a former you and don’t forget to buss’ it. Closing the show is ‘Feeling Like This’, with its experimental glaze and mercurial patterns somewhat blurring the imposing lines between classic AFX and the Night Slugs era.
Give your brain the ride of its life and get Viers between your ears. Typeless is back and you can’t even believe it, but you have to because these words in a row are telling you to.

Happy to be able to share the awesome track, 'Conditions of Weightlessness' by the fantastic Acidfinky, who is a Berlin-based DJ and producer, member of "THF Radio", co-founder of the feminist collective "BLVSH" and mind behind "Twisting Knobs Records".

"Weightlessness is a condition when your body is in free fall and the acceleration is downward at gravity. This condition can be defined by the term zero gravity. So weightlessness occurs when there is zero support of force on our body."

This release is without a doubt our most diverse line up to date, including artists from Canada, USA, Finland, Germany, Chile & Pakistan.

This one is aimed at peak time rave music. Booming 808s, squelching 303s, tight drums, and droning synths. All the good stuff we love about electro.
