Cat Gadget explores electronic music of the past decades. Her vinyl sets cannot be reduced to one genre, but are often characterized by Italo sound, driving EBM beats and spherical synths. Since she started collecting records early on, it was only a matter of time until she found herself behind the decks. As a DJ, music curator, collector and radio host, Istanbul’s Zozo has a unique approach to create and alter musical moods for various occasions with a distinctive yet hard to pin down sound. She gets her kicks from seeing long-forgotten and criminally under-appreciated music experience a new lease of life. Peppering mixes with a vast range of influences varying from pulsing techno to lysergic oddities and traditional sounds of her native Turkey, a Zozo gig almost always materializes as a symbiosis of forward-facing electronics, contemporary dance music and carefully picked gems from the past she grew up on.

Following the motto ‘life is hard but music is good’ from an early age, she has a seasoned character and deep understanding of the dynamics of the dance floor, with which she communicates with empathy. That has kept her busy on the weekends and she managed to bring her versatile taste to iconic dance floors as Panorama Bar, Contact Tokyo, De School, Ankali Prague, Robert Johnson or Salon des Amateurs. She is also a regular in high-rated festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Primavera Sound, Waking Life, Lente Kabinet, Flow Festival, Strange Sounds From Beyond, Dekmantel and its Selectors offshoot to name a few.

Part of the Lyon based label & dj crew Macadam Mambo and resident of Berlin institution Sameheads, Zozo nowadays operates as a resident DJ and musical advisor for Tavern Istanbul and crowning her interest in music and art with her multidisciplinary platform; AFOM INT. (A friend of mine International), that brings together like minded friends, in different fields such as music, art, design and publishing.

Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist Bad Colours returns with his fourth LP ‘Promise’ on Bastard Jazz. Fusing house, proto-techno, soul, hip-hop, and UK garage, the album pairs hypnotic club rhythms with moments of personal reflection, exploring vulnerability, desire, and transformation. Inspired equally by the energy of underground dancefloors and the quiet moments in between, ‘Promise’ is both dancefloor fuel and headphone therapy.
Musically, ‘Promise’ is a vibrant journey through Bad Colours’ genre-blurring world. The title track kicks things off with an up-tempo, harp-driven house groove featuring rising UK harpist Rachel Kitchlew, layered with ghostly female vocal snippets. ‘We Never Choose’, featuring Life On Planets, is a catchy, filtered floor-filler that alternates between rap and smooth, soulful vocals. ‘Moment of Silence’ spotlights Brooklyn’s Brandon Markell Holmes, whose emotive delivery soars over an intimate, late-night rhythm, while ‘Freaks’ enlists early-2000s Brooklyn dance-rap legends Ninjasonik for a bass-heavy chugger powered by their rapid-fire flow. ‘Nightcap’ rides a funky bassline and crisp percussion with vocals from longtime collaborator Jarv Dee, and ‘Home’ closes the record on a piano-led, MAW-inspired groove, with Bad Colours delivering his own intimate spoken-word poetry.
The project marks another evolution for London-born, Maryland-raised, Brooklyn-based artist Ibe Soliman, whose career has seen him DJ alongside James Murphy, Mark Ronson, and Q-Tip, produce for the mighty Kendrick Lamar and Faith Evans, and collaborate with Korean rap megastar Jay Park.
