I'm a pianist , organist, choir conductor and composer. I have written choral music (sacred and secular), instrumental music, music for theatre, multimedia exhibitions, short films.

Kantorei Choirs of Greater Kansas City, a professional vocal ensemble whose membership consists of music educators, full and part time performers, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to educating audiences by performing music selected from the Medieval period through the 21st century. We specialize in concerts that explore the historical links between music of all eras and art, politics, literature and culture, and most importantly,  all with an attention to detail and performance practice. Concerts feature a wide variety of excellent music ranging from Schutz to La Bamba, from medieval chant to sophisticated arrangements of traditional folk music. Kantorei combines these in ways that serve the ensemble's broader artistic vision. We also presents the Kantorei Summer Choral Institute each summer bringing young people into the fold.

Kantorei has embarked on the mission of providing choral music opportunities in a rather unique way.  Our ensemble offers singers a concentrated but high quality choral experience.  We will be performing three times each year.  A Christmas concert and a Spring concert as well as our Kantorei Summer Choral Institute will round each season.  

We are committed to innovative programming of exceptional music, attention to intonation and nuanced musical detail, and extraordinary choral sound. Kantorei features many of the Metro's finest professional singers as well as some wonderful young talent, who bring a stunning palette of vocal colors, impeccable control, and sensitive musical expression. Hailed for her “perfect vocalism” and described as “fiery, wild, and dangerous” (Classical Voice North Carolina) with “a talent for character portrayal” (Chicago Classical Review), soprano Margaret Carpenter Haigh is in demand as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America. Margaret has dazzled audiences around the continent in performances of major works with Memphis, Winston-Salem, and Portland Symphonies; Messiah Festival of the Arts; Bach Akademie Charlotte; Oregon Bach Festival; Arizona MusicFest; and Evansville Philharmonic. She is lauded for her scholarship and interpretation of music of the Renaissance and Baroque and has a particular specialization in Baroque gesture.

Award-winning composer Jake Runestad (b. 1986) is noted for his versatility and wide range of expressive capabilities with music driven by soaring melodies, driving rhythms, and lush textures. Considered “highly imaginative…with big ideas” (Baltimore Sun) and “stirring and uplifting” (Miami Herald), Jake has received commissions and performances from leading ensembles such as Seraphic Fire, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, VocalEssence, the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble, Cantus (Minnesota), and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra.

Jake Runestad holds a Master’s degree in composition from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where he studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts. Chris Munce, a Kansas City native, has been involved in local choral ensembles for almost two decades. Chris is an accomplished choral performer, and member of the Grammy Winning Kansas City Chorale and Armonia Early Music Ensemble. He spent two years with the Lee's Summit Community Boys choir as a treble, and was a tenor section leader at Unity Temple on the Plaza from 1999-2007. Chris received a Bachelor's of Music Education from the UMKC Conservatory of Music. During his tenure he spent three years singing in Heritage Chorale under the direction of Dr. Eph Ely and Dr. Charles Robinson and four years studying voice with Professor Michael Cousins. Following graduation Chris became the Director of Choirs at Belton High School, after which he began study for his Masters Degree in Choral Conducting at the Conservatory. During that time he served as adjunct faculty at the Conservatory teaching choral arranging, and at Blue River Community College as a professor of voice. Chris is now teaching at Lee's Summit High School as the Director of Choral Studies where his premier ensemble "Sounds of Summit" has recently been invited to perform at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC and his Concert Choir will make it's debut next spring in New York City.  Chris is also Director of Music at Lee's Summit First Presbyterian Church.   He has been an active private voice instructor since 1999.
