Artist / Mix Info:

1) Who are ya/what do you do?
I'm James Shinra and I make various types of electronic music. I've released on Analogical Force, Feel My Bicep, 20/20 Vision, Craigie Knowes, Null + Void.

2) How did you find making the mix/what was the thinking behind it?
I really enjoyed looking back through my old CDs and records to find tracks or albums that really had an impression on me. Most of the music here is from the late 90s/early 2000s - they're my teenage years and at the time I was on a real voyage of musical discovery, taking in loads of different styles, from the Prodigy to Daft Punk, trip hop to trance, speed garage to Detroit techno and electro, then eventually to Warp and Rephlex. Everything was new to me! I think that anything you discover between the ages of about 12 and 20 seems to stick with you the most, probably partly because of the new-ness and partly because of those youthful hormones! So the mix is kind of a mixtape of different artists or tracks I might have been evangelical about at some point in my life! In particular I rediscovered DJ Shadow's early album 'Pre-Emptive Strike' - I'd kind of forgotten how amazing it is, but ended up putting 2 tracks from it on this mix. 'High Noon' in particular is an all time favourite. I've only included one recent track mainly because of time constraints - it's by Cameo Blush. He's really impressed me recently, he is definitely worth watching! I've included some unreleased ambient stuff by me here and there during the mix, see if you can find it :)

3) What’s coming up?
I'm not quite sure, I've got a few things I'm working on and will hopefully sort them out soon. I'm sure I'll appear on Analogical Force again before too long. I've started doing remixes again too after a while turning them down, so there are a couple of nice remixes to look forward to in the coming months.
