Experimental sound artist KMRU(@kamarujoseph)is a master of quietness. His music is as much about empty space as it is the delicate field recordings that fill it in. The Kenyan artist has been perfecting this balancing act from his base in Berlin, most notably on 2020 full-length Peel. It's a record of slowly unfolding synth beauty and drawn-out drone mindfulness. Soft focus chords bleed and blend into one another like different shades of watercolour paint and the environmental nature of the sound sources lends it a gorgeously natural atmosphere.
For this week's most meditative mix, KMRU puts together an hour of soothing sound in a painterly fashion. It is unhurried but always going somewhere thanks to a gentle underlapping rhythm, expansive synth arc or little hiss of static. What sounds like distant vocal calls drift in and out of the mix which at times is like a recording from the furthest recess of the cosmos, at others the pleasant ambiance you might hear out of a Berlin window on a sunny afternoon.

Today I am happy to share the latest edition of Deep Mind Music. This one is a live recording of the set I played on the 8th of May at Sonic Garden, sat on a very comfy sofa in the tree-covered terrace of IKLECTIK in South London 🌱

Many thanks to @avsluta & Christian Duka (@dvka) of Amoenus for the invite, it was a joy to play an extended set to such an engaged audience of listeners. The Amoenus sound system at IKLECTIK also has to be the most beautiful system I’ve ever played ambient music through, everything sounded so crisp and warm.

This set features a lot of the ambient and experimental music I’ve been enjoying lately, with an extended expedition into the ~dronezone~ (🖤)

There are some special tracks in here I treasure very dearly, and I’m happy they found a home in this mix. Whilst selecting these tracks, I was reflecting on the energies of spring, that shifting feeling of shedding off the last of winter’s introspection, whilst reaching forward into summer’s vibrant energy. I hope the mix provides a dreamy and expansive landscape for drifting away 🦋🍃🌤

Having released music via  @oscilla-sound & @indexrecords, he explores space & rhythm through a psychedelic blend of deep, bassy sounds.

One would only have to indulge in Priori's impressive back catalogue to attest to his consistent quality but evolution of style and creative flow. Seeing Francis play multiple times on his recent tour to Australia really cemented all of this for me.- one of the best in the biz!

Armenian artist @davenyxaether has been a focal point of our music consumption, lapping up each mix and release with fervent hunger, since his explosive track "strngr" on Serbian compilation @kepasaparadoks. His productions and mixes reach a level of frenzied beauty many can only dream of. Traversing deep ambient explorations, through grimey bass to fiery heights of percussive madness. His latest release on @typelessrecords is a further testament to his unique taste and skill for carving up volatile, percussive, bass-heavy hits. Dave N.A. everybody. It's Irene (@ip.tello / www.ireneptello.eu). I'm visual/digital artist and designer in my non-free time. I collect blue sky images, round shape objects and early morning light shadows.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

This mix is a very special selection of some meaningful tracks that inspires me and takes me to my own center as an extension of my own energies. These are rare findings in this last years, recreating visual/sound or even physical memory.


q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?

Lushful, uncanny and savvy feeling. Probably at some beautiful natural space, when light is falling and the sky seems melting into deep blue/violet tones - A sense of inner peace.


q. describe a favorite object in your living room...

I have many favorite objects as I'm an object fanatic. I would say a blue turquoise feather from a bird that I found traveling around and now I just keep it on a white ceramic vase at my own apartment.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

I’m working at the moment with sound artists/records labels making cover artworks and visuals for new EP releases. Also working on my own projects and some collaborations. Recently I was invited to make an AV liveset with my visuals at La Nature festival in Belgium in a very experimental/ambient atmosphere and it was beautiful.

This is the 108th Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. These monthly released sessions brings you the best and the most diversity Ambient music can offer. I am very excited for this months session because Karen Vogt is presenting her mix with fresh new music and  dives into atmosphere, nature, chanting and peaceful little sounds that emerge in all tracks that she selected for this occassion.

About:
Karen Vogt is an Australian artist who uses her voice primarily to create atmospheric compositions. Mostly known for her ethereal, shimmering vocals with Australian dream-pop band Heligoland, that she co-founded in 1999 (produced by Robin Guthrie). She is now based in Paris, France and composes experimental and ambient solo works based around improvisation, often manipulating her vocals to add layers of emotional depth to her works. She also has a fortnightly radio show on CAMP where she plays 2 hours of new ambient, electronic and experimental music.
Her mix for September is inspired by the shift in the weather from late Summer to early Autumn. Her intention was to create a soundtrack with which to watch the fading light and feel the temperature drop. The mix includes an exclusive unreleased track from the forthcoming Guentner | Spieth album (out on AFFIN in October) along with a selection of new releases ranging from experimental ambient to pop ambient. Some vocal ambient tracks are included with Vogt's own works, remixes of her work and her GALÁN / VOGT collaboration with Spanish composer Pepo Galán.
