People have their personal rituals. Leaving the International Space Station Russian space travelers left some bread and salt as a welcome gift for their American colleagues. Tennis star Serena Williams
bounces the ball exactly five times before her first serve. Our beloved master of ceremony of techno music, Sven Väth, has a ritual as well: When the shadows on the island Ibiza grow longer and the noise of the summer is about to fade away, he takes a couple of days off and reminisces the passing season, the parties, the crowds and the music: What were the craziest, the most outrageous, most beautiful moments? Which situations, which encounters inspired me? What did we laugh about? And of course: what was the best music? Which tracks accompanied me and my Cocoon People during those intense weeks? Väth assembles those magical tracks for the sixteenth time this year merging them into two and a half hour set. 

With "Sound of the 16th Season", Väth brings together friends from Cocoon´s environment, as well as long time companions from all over the world and young, aspiring musicians. Väth opens with DJ Koze's "XTC": Through a cloudy, blurry soundscape, a captivating melody begins to talk to us. This exceptional piece of music manages to merge contradictory feelings. Väth uses it to set an emotional anchor, to what is at stake. Matthew Dekay plays a single cello chord to wait for a short moment.
Those seconds of silence turns the track into a poetical starting signal. Väth stops the grooves harshly and sets a new tone, with "Next Please" by Metaboman, a high-spirited, twisted, funny, electronic polka. With the outrageous techno soul of Kevin Saunderson and Carl Craig the legendary Detroit honchos turn play into drama. Jacob Korn takes this thread and adds melodic Detroit sounds releasing the tension with a jazzy, experimental gesture. With Leon Vynehalls reduced gospel, the set reaches a spiritual moment, which is driven on by Aaron with his wonderful, driving "Whatcha Say. The beautiful passionate voice says: "That's what you say.” Singing the line over and over again, it turns into confirmation, reminder and some kind of warning. With the pretty, quiet "Do not disturb Björn" Väth allows us to pause for a moment. Beloved for his delicate sound textures, John Tejada extends the shades of the subdued mood. Mattheis turns it into something different in a very subtle way, using penetrating strings with an anthem like quality. With Patrick Specke´s & Daze Maxim´s contribution, Väth brings the set down on the groove to move into the finale of the first part: "Drifting" by Jacke Sienkiewicz puts us with beautiful, delicate sounds in a state of childlike enchantment. Ricardo Tobar implements this unique feeling using wider, soft, springy sounds, which let us float like a Ballon.

The bread and the salt of the Russians is only a welcome gift. "The Sound of the 16th Season" unites past, present and future. Both CDs provide an opportunity to remember the best moments of the summer as the storms of autumn sweep around the houses. But it's not just about the past, but also about tomorrow: The rousing tracks make you looking forwforward to 2016: the dancing, the laughter, the sun, the beautiful people and the contented, generous smile our Sven!

Innervisions boss and Berlin luminary Dixon turns in a storming reimagining of the atmospheric, electronic matrix of ‘Level 7’ where straight talking techno does the driving as layers build, get stripped back then steered onto a more melodic path underpinned by a rumbling deep bassline.

Next up, the unstoppable duo Tale Of Us transport one of the more playful ‘Blurry’ cuts ‘Kissing Your Eyes’ into a brooding dubby sound bed of live sounding drums combined with rippling echoing synth melodies. Berlin based Carmine and Matteo aka Tale Of Us, first rose to prominence on the Visionquest imprint in 2011 and have since released on Life And Death and M_nus.

Glitchy tech meets raw rolling drum beats in Akufen’s ‘Body In Motion’ remix. As hypnotic, as you would expect from the Canadian mastermind, Akufen lures you into a trance and keeps you guessing, progressing from dextrous minimal textures to full on fluid jazzy piano interpretations.

With his last EP offering on Keinemusik, &ME displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. You would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “After Dark” can only be a lucky hit. But no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. Another example? Catalog number KM028, his brandnew “Trilogy” EP.
The titletrack on A initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. The beat of "Trilogy" is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &ME even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. Sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd.
On the flipside, “Woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. Woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. And once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. Add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a B-side that’s actually more of an A-competitor.

Title track ‘Siberian Express’ begins blissfully with a hypnotic melody that leads into a deep swelling bass, a forceful beat and intricate layers of warbling keys. An epic breakdown rises from grumbling synths culminating with Jamie’s signature bassline and spacey stabs, as powerful builds fall in and out of play. On the flip, ‘Captain Kirk’s Battle Dance’ is solid and rolls with infectious looped basslines that steers through trippy FX. On a darker tip, ‘The 16th Floor’ is rich and deep with mesmerising synths, layered throughout over a tight groove. 

o+ Undoubtedly the pioneer of the new wave of house music, Jamie Jones is a force to be reckoned with. Alongside running Hot Creations and sub-label Hot Trax, Jamie has also started his new label Emerald City, which will release music with a greater crossover appeal. 2015 has brought forward a huge output of music from Jamie including a stunning collaboration with Kate Simko, London Electronic Orchestra and Jem Cooke on Emerald City followed by the next huge hit from his band Hot Natured called ‘Off World Lover’. Not to mention this impressive solo three tracker on Hot Creations. 

o+o Aside from spending hours in the studio and managing an intense touring schedule, Jamie also runs his night Paradise at DC10, arguably the most popular weekly night in Ibiza. Its safe to say there is no sign of slowing down for Jamie any time soon.

You’d think with turning 4, it’d be easy to sit back and enjoy the ride? Yet Crossfrontier Audio won’t stop, we’re gearing up for another year and we’re gunning for our 50th release too! The next of which is a mix of label favourites and exciting new artists who feature on our 2-part 4 Years of Crossfrontier Audio, due for release mid of October – stay in the mix as you will not be disappointed, with a nod to the past and a look to the future, we certainly have a few surprises for you.

Cocoon Recordings has been founded in the year 2000 as a part of the Cocoon Music Event GmbH. Sven Väth has initiated Cocoon Recordings in order to complete the Cocoon platform as a supporting tool for young artists in Electronic Music. The label philosophy is as simple as demanding: helping young producers and DJs to release their music without depending on Major Label structures. The releases can mainly be assigned to the genres Techno and House.

Cocoon Recordings as a label and Sven Väth as an artist stand for the use of vinyl as sound carrier, also in the future. Admittedly, the Digital Division of Cocoon Recordings has also been set up in 2008 and the numbers of downloads are indeed enjoyable. However, the label's focus is on vinyl, now and in the future. In order to complete the range of services that Cocoon Recordings offers, the publishing company Cocoon Publishing was founded in 2010.
