Theo Parrish grew up on Chicago house parties. He went to art school in Kansas City, and then moved to Detroit. His eclectic DJ sets in Detroit in the late ’90s and early in this millennium are legendary. 

“Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn DJing into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement.” This personal philosophy gives shape and direction to the distinctive sounds that are created by Theo Parrish. Who else sounds like Larry Heard? In the late 1980s, The Chicago house producer was one of the first artists – initially as a part of Fingers, Inc., and then as a solo act – to truly stamp their own unique aesthetic onto the nascent style of electronic dance music. Favouring lush instrumentation, foggy chords and dreamy melodies over the more mechanic pounding of many of his counterparts, he inspired the "deeper" sounds of the midwest's second wave, and generations of young clubbers elsewhere around the world.

Pew Fellowship recipient, King James Britt (his real name) is a 30+ year, producer, composer, performer and educator in electronic music. As a composer and producer, his practice has lead to collaborations with the likes of De La Soul, Alarm Will Sound Orchestra, Saul Williams, director Michael Mann (Miami Vice) and many others, as well as being called for remixes from an eclectic list of giants, including, Meredith Monk, Solange to Calvin Harris. Most recently collaborating with MacArthur Fellow, Tyshawn Sorey for a recently released album project. In his role as performer, he has travelled globally playing thousands of venues and festivals, including, AfroPunk (NYC), Berghain (Berlin), MoogFest (Durham), Le Guess Who Festival (Utrecht) and The Kitchen (NYC). King was also the original DJ for the Grammy Award winning Digable Planets.
His curatorial work has been seen in many collaborations with the likes of MoMA PS1, Philadelphia Museum of Art and most recently Carnegie Hall. Blacktronika : Afrofuturism In Electronic Music, is a new lecture course at UCSD, created by Professor King Britt, researching and honoring the people of color, who have pioneered groundbreaking genres within the electronic music landscape. Genres span from Chicago House, Detroit Techno and Drum & Bass music. Using his position in the industry, the class has been attended by many, including Questlove, Julian Priester and Flying
Lotus. King remains one of the go to authorities on Afrofuturism in music.

DJ and producer, Aleqs has shaped the underground music scene since the early 2000s with a sound influenced by Detroit and Chicago. Known for soulful House and deep Techno rhythms, he gained prominence through DJ scratching competitions and international label compositions. In 2020, he launched I.L Recordings. His career highlights include releases on ClekClekBoom Recordings, Finale Sessions, and the acclaimed “Ascending Nodes” on Sistrum Recordings in 2017. Aleqs has performed alongside icons like Larry Heard and Moodymann in top venues like Fabric and Tresor, consistently pushing boundaries with his deep, raw sounds.
