Being a daughter of migrants, who grew up in the urban area of Frankfurt am Main, Jasmin felt a strong desire to explore the world from an early age on. She lived in Brasil, Portugal, Berlin and Vienna and organized events in theatre, music and dance and was part of Club 'So & So' in Leipzig.
There she went behind the decks as Pokka for the first time. In her sessions, she merges Downtempo, Electronica, Trip Hop and Bass Music, so that musical vibes can be discovered when dancing.

Interview with Melanie Camsen by Parties4Peace

Q) Tell us about your music career and how you got started ? 

I was always interested in music, and when I was little my parents used to play music for me to sleep. Then the music began impacting different stages of my life and I started to know different bands, music styles and genres.  I never imagined I'd become a DJ. It was never in my plans, but it happened, and I'm very happy to be able to share the music I like with many people from different parts of the world. 
I have a very short career, as I started 4 years ago, and I was always interested in downtempo music.  In 2016 I traveled to Berlin, and during that trip I got very motivated with the genre and I decided to move for a while to that city to know more about the culture of music, clubs, etc. and that city convinced me that I wanted to do this. 

Q) How would you describe your music, and what inspires you to create ?

I use different sounds, from organics, ethnics, to tropicals and groovy rhythms. My music is characterized by a low bpm. Depending where I have to play, the kind of trip I can create changes. 

Q) What do you personally love about the ocean ? 

The freedom and peace you receive while you hear the sounds of the water. Theoretically the water transmits tranquility because it is one of the first sounds we hear inside our mother’s belly. 

I had the opportunity to dive some years ago and it was an amazing experience. There are not many places on this earth where u can connect 100% with your breathing and feel like you are so small inside this huge paradise. 
Having been born in a mountainous place, always seeing the ocean was a special moment. Sometimes you want what you can’t have and whenever that moment comes, it fills you with energy.

Q) This year for the United Nations World Oceans Day, the 2020 theme is "Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean". How do you think artists can contribute to supporting ocean conservation.

It doesn't matter if you are a popular artist or not, if the public is not educated and has no awareness of the environment there is not much that can be done. The world after this pandemic we are living is changing, and hopefully this can be an opportunity to wake up. I think event producers should set some environmental rules and the public should be encouraged to follow them until they realize that it is good for everybody. For example, some systems of reduction of the use of plastics in clubs and festivals, as well as some other rules to keep the places clean of waste that can affect the ocean and the environment. 

Q) Parties4Peace is a non profit organization working to promote a culture of peace through music and art -  how do you think music can have a positive impact on the world ? 

Music has always had a positive impact on the world especially in the times we are living today, I could not imagine the world surviving without music and art at this time. Besides, music is something that encompasses many branches, music allows us all to be united and connected regardless of belief, religion, color, etc.

We are proud to host Experiment #2 by Noid'Or (https://soundcloud.com/noid-or), who already rocked our dance floor to the fullest! Looking forward for his next sets at our venue, meanwhile enjoying the record he has carefully prepared just for us.

He has been under the influence of melodic, deep and space sounds of electronic music, 
since times when such kind of music was truly underground. Early inspiration came from names like 
Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Space, Zodiac. Seeing rise and development of modern dance and electronic music,
 Noid'Or has always felt that music is what he is deeply connected with and absorbed it in all kinds 
of styles, forms and shapes. Later, passion for electronic dance music (from soulful house to deep, 
techno and drum'n'bass) brought him to DJing and today it shaped into something intelligent, 
deep, melodic, and with a nostalgic taste of romantic adventures 
(like in those fiction and fantasy books people used to read earlier).

In DJing sets Noid'Or combines different musical styles and rhythms that fits into a story of 
deep, melodic, emotional adventure, with nostalgic feeling of distant lands, diverse cultures 
and adventures that always lives in the heart of every inner child.
