Pat Brick aka DJ Life has been on a steady rise since his debut record released in 2019 with Echocentric Records, corresponding with the labels first release. The Aussie DJ and producer has since had a total of eight releases with prominent underground labels such as Dansu Discs, R.A.N.D. Muzik, and most recently, Lobster Theremin’s Distant Horizons sublabel. The energetic and fun take at combining prog, trance and techno has landed DJ Life’s name amongst the top in his league of sound.

We caught up with DJ Life on this edition of MIXED BY to discuss a bit about his music production, influences and the Australian underground dance music scene.

Making the heyday of the Salade Lyonnaise and Le Malley collectives with its sharp and worked minimal house house, he has been inspired by various influences, ranging from Floating Point to Malin Génie via Lazare Hoche and Ben UFO, he knows how to vary styles without ever altering the flow. 
Through his label Inner Garden, he now shares his aesthetic vision of music from Paris, with a flurry of releases on other labels too.

Blur Podcasts 058 - 3 S (France)

Now live at the Blur Podcasts for the very first time, the Argentinian musician, producer and DJ - Leblanc! 

Composing and playing guitar from a very young age, Leblanc is known for his versatile and diverse music genres, featuring a few releases last year which solidified his position as one of Argentina's rising talents. 

In his solo DJ sets, he brings an energetic-groovy sound, highlighting a panopali of genres such as minimal, funk and uk garage, showcasing his technical skill and selection acumen in a wonderful one hour exclusive mix recorded for us. 

With a collaboration EP with DJ Windows 7 dropping at Blur Records on the 10th of December, we decided to make him our 59th guest for the Blur Podcasts, which is now live on our Youtube and Soundcloud pages.

Our final instalment of the year comes from 2 artists we have become extremely fond of over the past 12 months, Melody and her RA+RE compatriot Ethel. The curation explodes into action with a no nonsense opening and streamlines through an intergalactic blend of idm, electronica, breaks and everything in between. The girls offer a fine pallet of versatility and showcase their eclectic taste remarkably throughout the duration of the mix with super selections and classy mixing.

Opening phase 3 of the RCU, the Reptilian Mix 07 introduces rising star @tau-car, already quite famous in the Neuköllnywood underground art-house scene. She is now stepping under the World Wide Web projector lights for reptilian connoisseurs' uppermost enjoyment. 

Indeed, Car has experienced her share of life-changing party experiences, to a point she had to answer the call of Jane Gain™ and started to ride those transitions as if her life was depending on it. Relentlessly practicing, she started deep diving into minimal / tech-house, funky club-house, and electroclash to create her distinctive sound showcased in this mix. Her ability to select and play records is only equaled by her love towards Renéchou, her dogtilian son, adding a new member to the reptilian bestiary.

She is the closest crew member imaginable and we are more than proud to feature her first mix in the series.

Hailing from Osaka, Japan, Paperkraft brings a high energy instalment of top tier tune selections and unreleased material with episode 76 of the CommaCast Series.

An artist that has been continously growing within the underground electronic circuits over a number of years. We first heard of the Paperkraft name back in the primetime of the lo-fi house and techno days, an artist that was consistantly putting out truly moving and forward thinking productions. Now pushing more tech and prog inspired house music under this alias and delightfully sharing his track 'Space Cadet' with us for the latest ToneShift compilation, it's apparent even more so that Paperkraft is a true talent capable of producing top quality in any style they explore. Landing in for our 77th instalment of the CommaCast Series we have Manchester based selector Caff.

An up and coming name within the Manchester circuit, Caff, who's spent the best part of a decade collecting a widespread of underground sounds. This mix showcases a glimpse of what this selectors capable of and we're hyped to have his unique style on the series.

Landing in for a much welcomed instalment to the CommaCast Series, L Daze (she/her) brings the psychedelic goodness for episode 78.
Starting her journey behind the booth in Birmingham via collective Selextorhood, now based in London, L Daze has been shelling out masterful recent sets for prestigious names such as Goddezz, Aquatic Formations, Whomp and Rhythm Section. Drawing inspiration from the 90's / early 00's trance and prog era, this talented selector combines old-school hypnotic sounds with the paced up state of modern dance floors. This hour long mix for us represents just a taste of the sheer class L Daze has when it comes to crafting absorbing story telling through tripped out grooves and mind melting sonic atmospheres. Superb stuff!

Slamming it down for episode 79 of the CommaCast Series we have Manchester-based Sassafrass co-founder, JON XVM!

Displaying for us a no-holds-barred powerhouse of old-school and modernised underground prog house sounds, Jon takes us on a mighty journey of pre-summer party fuel. Launching brand Sassafrass back in 2022, a project that would quickly lead towards playing sets at ADE, Glastonbury, as well as regular club events in Manchester and Leeds. Jon's taste is diverse yet top tier in finding those sweet gems, and this mix for us showcases that skillset he has to piece superb selections together. Get locked into this one!

Episode 80 has landed! Welcoming to the Comma family a quickly rising name within the London circuit going by the name of Julia SC.

Midlands-raised, SE-London-based Julia SC's taste for melodically tripped out euphoric dance music was shaped in Leeds when serving as an Editor for the (now defunct) Flux blog - the much loved House and Techno event, and label. Now making a rapidly growing presence for herself within the London trance and prog scene, Julia has graced us with a delicately crafted mix that paints a sunkissed hug in the form of vintage deeply dug electro, breakbeat, trance and prog. What's so distinctive about this mix is how much it showcases an individual sound for this absolute talent of a selector and how we are held in a space of complete escapism from the first track to the last.
