ISAbella is one of the leading figures of the Barcelona club scene, but her reach goes far beyond the DJ booth. A co-founder of celebrated LGBTQ+ party, platform and collective MARICAS, she’s become a veritable icon within the city’s queer community while carving out space for dancers of all stripes and backgrounds to find connection, both on and off the dancefloor. ISAbella has now burst through it, and she’s determined to bring her entire community along for the ride.

Here is a recording of my two-hour morning set at NYE, Ankali & Planeta Za.

A gig that will forever be in my heart, thanks to the love that was, especially in the last 30 minutes, palpable and overwhelming. 

While choosing tracks, I let myself go to many corners, always focusing on a specific feeling that a fresh morning on the 1st day of a new year evoked in me – warm, energizing, ethereal, hopeful, promising. That is what we were going for, and what we've achieved on the dancefloor. 

Many many thanks to the @ankali fam for letting me be a part of this night. 

And thanks to all the beautiful souls who danced with me, shared smiles and kind words – I hope this recording finds you well <3

"For various reasons, I took a big retreat from the world of electronic music this summer. Every time I tried to listen to 'club' music my brain would just switch off, and I instead I found myself gravitating towards a steady diet of ambient, video game soundtracks, and podcasts. It was quite an insular period in my life as well; I was signed off from work on sick leave, so I didn't do any festivals or clubs, and I didn't do any DJing or music production either.
 
In retrospect, this time away was super necessary for me to get the passion back; my brain has done a huge musical reset and I'm totally obsessed again (thank god!). For now, I've emerged from my trance wormhole and and have found myself leaning  back towards the strains of electronic that I originally got into as a teenager; weighty soundsystem tracks with attitude, with an emphasis on low-end and drums. It's less melodic and more groove-driven; heads-down, not hands-up. 

I'm super happy with how this comes through in the mix, hopefully you enjoy it too!"
