Exclusive: Matisa - I Need A Bit Of Poetry

Hailing from Florence cosmic producer Matisa only has few but quite sophisticated releases in her discography. Before taking you elsewhere the artists started her musical output on Optimo with her two tracker Organza until coming together with a bunch of other artists on Butter Sessions. Now the former Roman releases her first EP on DC Salas' and Abstraxion's Biologic Records, which simply goes by the name of The Elsewhere and portrays different episodes of a night (out). The EP jumpstarts with I Need A Bit Of Poetry, which is the most housey take of the three tracker. As the tracks kicks of with a  simple bass line and clap, which is accompanied by a single atmosphere bringing synth, the track develops to a multi-layered House-anthem, including diverse tonal variations creating a rather profound musical piece that has, as the track title suggests, a poetic handwriting and leaves the listener with her Romans-tic approach: a classic beauty. 

Matisa's EP The Elsewhere will be released on Biologic Records on June 12th, 2020.

The city came alive at night, awakened from its dormant state. The streets, lit in colours of red, green and purple, rang with the buzz of incessant chatter, brimming with thrill seekers finding a place to house them until the early hours. People stumbled out of one venue and into the next, looking for the next adventure, another surprise waiting for them around the corner. There was so much to discover, this wasn't a time for sleep.

Two Twirl Recordings veterans have teamed up for the latest release on the Berlin-based label run by DJ and producer Alinka. Majorettes is the new supergroup made up of The Bunker New York affiliate Justin Cudmore and The Carry Nation (Nita Aviance and Will Automagic), who've teamed up for a three tracker aimed firmly at the dance floor. Across the EP, titled Records Dept., pulsating rhythms meet haunting vocals, while percussive house frameworks are laced with dramatic pads and breakbeats are propped up by groovy basslines.

PREMIERE: Daniela La Luz – When You Go All In And Wait [Uncanny Valley]

Fragile X is the new collaborative guise of Inga Schunn and Dylan Chase, the latter has been releasing material as Caffeine Worldwide over the past few years. Here with the ‘Lifetime’ EP the pair inaugurate their new project, the collection of tracks was recorded over four days in Mexico City in early 2019. Schunn provided vocals while Chase focused on the mechanical aspects. It was mixed by Chase in Mexico City in 2020, while he was sick with Covid-19. We don’t know if there will be another record. A lot is uncertain these days. This EP marks the third vinyl release by Bouquet, a label and party series based in Chase’s hometown of San Diego.
Title-cut ‘Lifetime’ leads the release with garage tinged off-kilter drums, swirling atmospherics, snaking sub bass grooves and resonant synth melodies all dynamically
 underneath Schunn’s hypnotic vocal stylings. ‘Prix’ follows and employs a similarly organic rhythmic feel while stirring in airy string melodies, plucked strings and an amalgamation of fluttering woodwind and acid synths throughout.
‘Karaoke Gurl’ kicks off the flip side of the EP, edging into electronica realms with a bumpy 303 bass hook and dreamy synth chimes while once again welcoming Inga’s silvery vocal contributions. The ‘Fragile X’ theme then concludes the project on a cinematic tip, nodding towards an early 2000’s IDM aesthetic with broken drums, textural synths and organ melodies.

Who else would have thought before the year 2020, that this new decade starts with a devastating natural incident that pushes the entire world in a health crisis and recession? Well, we sure didn’t. And still, after 11 months, this damn virus doesn’t seem to go away. But no matter how bad this pandemic is. There is no need to stop being creative! Many people used their time during the lockdowns as much as possible to make new music. And Jakobin is one of these guys who took his time this spring to work on brand new material, that is slowly but surely coming out the next months on various labels. One of them is his Locked EP on our imprint - fortunea. The title track on the A-side is an amazing piece of house music. A great homage on the raw punching Chicago sound and the late 80s/early 90s UK rave era. Heavy Breakbeat-loops blend in perfect together with the use of 909 kicks, low-frequenced acid lines and a stabbing piano. Turning over to the B-side there is the track ‚Pad Work’. A deep dub house tune with a nuance of Lo-ﬁ-nism in it. Mysterious voices that are coming forward from the background of this bouncing beat, a restrained but also smooth bassline and hypnotic string- and synthesizer-passages are the main characters in this tableau. While ‚Dreadbox’ is sealing the deal on this release with an abstract melancholic sciﬁ elektro approach. Overall a conspicuous release, that lets you forget the chaos that is happening right now in this world. All we wanna say at the end of this text is stay safe out there! And don’t give up!
