Slam City Jams are back with their first compilation. A 4-tracker packed up with five amazing artists from all over the globe. And let’s face it: It’s a breaky affair!
Starting off with our Munich homeboys from COEO. Known for their funked up house tunes on Toy Tonics, they start into complete new realms this time. ‚Never Going Home‘ is the perfect example of a dope broken beat electro tune, that with it’s weird synth line & smooth breakdown never failed on a gig in the last months.
On A2 the man Doppelate from London (Let’s Go Swimming Rec.) exactly hits the spot with mezmerizing synths, tight drum programming and a crunchy acid bassline on ‚Four Feet Up The Stairs‘.
The flip side starts off with label head honchos Rhode & Brown, who teamed up with their buddy Leo Woelfel from Austria, both known for releases on Toy Tonics, Public Possession or Let’s Play House. Here the name ‚More Drama (Less Hysteria)’ says it all: Pure drama on this breaky acid tune!
To round up this great package we’ve got Marco Lazovic from Moscow on B2. He digs deep‚ In The Jungle’ with rolling 707 drums, dreamy synths and this tropical atmosphere we can’t get enough of.

“Sometimes I Don’t Regret” is the second single taken from the new fifth Marsmobil album.... It is sheer bliss pop, gentle chugging, while making a strong determination. An electro-pop song about the significance of indifferent topics. Roberto Di Gioia used the legendary vocoder Korg VC-10, and he plays the Korg PS–3100, an rare instrument, only 330 of the PS–3100 were ever built. Produced by Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister).

Art pop meets Mongolian throat singing, Blade Runner meets Walter Carlos (Clockwork Orange), Tom Dissevelt and Kid Baltan (Bowie’s favourite band) meet Tame Impala.
The fifth album from Marsmobil has been hailed by many as their best yet. With closer ties to “Minx” (2006) than the last two albums, “Fairytales Of The Supersurvivor” returns to Marsmobil’s signature strength of wondrously brilliant songs (“And The Fishes In The Ocean”, “Shadows Of The Inner Light”) that blend off-the-wall cinemascope sounds with dazzling beats and punchy, powerful hooks to create uniquely distinctive art pop anthems.
As always with Marsmobil, Roberto Di Gioia writes, plays, sings and programs everything himself. Here, as on “Minx”, he’s brought in support from a fabulous singer – the very wonderful Amber Lin, who contributes vocals on four songs. All the cover illustrations are also by Di Gioia.
Multi-instrumentalist Roberto Di Gioia needs little introduction. The curious can explore his biography, discography and extensive lists of projects and collaborations as musician and songwriter (see below) for an impression of the hugely diverse achievements of this multi- talent and brilliant musician.
As a topical heads-up, Roberto Di Gioia is also the founder of the German jazz supergroup Web Web and released the album “Oracle” in September 2017. The second Web Web album will follow in early 2018, hard on the heels of the fifth Marsmobil release. Di Gioia also wrote and produced “Teufelswerk” for DJ Hell and contributed virtually all the songs on Hell’s latest album, “Zukunftsmusik”.

Pressed in 2007 as ‘Gotta Tape I Wanna Play', I originally put this together for my US debut in October 2005, at APT in NYC – recording here:

I was a big fan of ‘Stop Making Sense’, the Talking Heads concert from 1984, which was released as both a film and an album. It starts with David Byrne on an empty stage with just a ghetto blaster and acoustic guitar, performing one of the band’s best-known tracks, ‘Psycho Killer, which was originally released in 1977. The beats, courtesy of a Roland TR-808 drum machine, re-appear in extended form over the closing credits. The idea of an edit was there from the moment I bought ‘Stop Making Sense’ on VHS back in the 80’s, but the sound quality from the video wouldn’t have been up to scratch. However, when it was released on DVD later down the line, this was no longer a problem, and I was able to let the beats run on their own for a couple of minutes before the guitar enters and the track really kicks in.

The edit took off in a big way for me, and later with DJ’s including Andrew Weatherall and Optimo. It subsequently became a major festival tune for me and featured in my Essential Mix in 2009 (http://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/essential-mix-greg-wilson-mix-for-bbc-radio-1). More recently it appeared on my Festival Anthems mix (http://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/greg-wilson-festival-anthems), and given this, I thought it was a good time to share here.
