Whoever you are, and no matter what your musical preference, there is a good chance you have danced to a Kieran Hebden beat before now. The London man best known as Four Tet has done everything in his career, from glistening indie-licked electronica albums to pumping bass and garage mixes for Fabric via collaborations with Steve Reid and Burial, shows on NTS and plenty of club ready projects on his own Text label. We have long been a fan, and recently he played for us at Dekmantel Festival. 

The results were recorded and we present them to you here as our latest podcast. As you would expect, it is hard to put into words what the man aims for, and achieves, across the course of two hours, but suffice it to say it will surely be the most adventurous mix you hear for a while. From niche Indian music to classic house, dirty STL cuts to synthetic tech and Latin tinged funk, he stitches together a wild ride full of smooth left turns and dazzling curveballs that will make you want to loosen every limb in your body and shake till you drop. We already have done once back in early August, and now we surely will do again and again and again.

Renata Rosa is a contemporany artist that blends sounds of the northeast area of Brazil in a very unique way. On “Brilhantina” her indigenous influenced voice fits wisely to the Samba de Coco rhythms. Its ́s an outstanding track from the beginning to the end and a good example of how powerful and bass-heavy percussion-driven music from Brazil can sound these days. Renata Rosa manages to present Brazil’s musical roots in a modern guise, celebrating widely unkown facets of Brazilian music culture.

► Boiler Room and Ballantine’s True Music partnership returns, taking one step further with the Hybrid Sounds project. Working alongside some of the most engaging live electronic acts in the world, we’ll travel to Moscow, Sao Paulo, Beirut and Valencia, on a journey that will explore the links between acoustic and electronic music, uncovering what can occur when these two distinct styles collide.

On each city visited, the artists collaborate on new original material for our next True Music EP — a record that catalogues the exceptional sounds captured throughout this project. After an exciting collaboration by British duo Overmono with Russian saxophonist Solo Operator, we brought Dutch producer Dollkraut to Lebanon where he worked with Maii and Zeid, a duo formed by legendary Beirut producer Zeid Hamdan and vocalist Maii Waleed.

The final creation, “Esmak Esmi” is the result of Maii’s tranquil lyricism fused with Zeid and Dollkraut’s perfected arrangement and improvisation. The three unique artists, all strongly connected by a shared love for historic instruments and sounds, met in Beirut to create the collaboration track in three days of studio sessions.

First official reissue of the extremely rare full-length album by Lagos-based bandleader Shina Williams. Clean copies of the original currently sell for up to £500.

The record was born in 1979 when Shina put Biddy Wright, Fred Fisher, Saliu Alabi, Prince Bola, Tutu Shoronmu, Tunde willimas and several other decorated Nigerian musicians – who played with the likes of Fela Kuti, SJOB Movement, Sonny Okoson, King Bucknor amongst others – together to record. The result is ‘African Dances’, a timeless fusion of afrobeat, electronics, boogie and disco.

Includes his most well-known song, ‘Agboju Logun’ that Williams knew was ground breaking – “I want to show the whole wide world that Africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,”. This album version is a different mix to the two-track 12” that came out under on Earthworks, Rough Trade in 1984.
