The first in a series of remixes for Michael Mayer’s latest album The Floor Is Lava comes from one of our favourite artists here at Kompakt HQ: PRIORI. Everything this Montreal-based artist has touched has turned to gold. His reworking of Mayer’s The Solution is certainly no exception. Rightly so, Priori has just been honoured with a Juno Award, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys. Congratulations, Francis!

The “german jazz super group” (Süddeutsche / SZ) invited the famous singer and Gembri player Majid Bekkas, who also performs on other tracks on the album. On “Maroc Blues” you can hear the warm sound of the Gembri’s resonating box – a three stringed skin-covered bass plucked lute used by the Gnawa people – together with Majids wonderful voice, reflecting the ancient trasition of the berbers. Web Web mastermind Roberto Di Gioia added some earthy elements for the radio version.
