“Memoria” is an album about my memories, my hometown, the scent and flavours of my childhood, things Iʼve read, movies Iʼve watched at the cinema and my love for music. Itʼs about going back home, re-establishing a link with the past and recalling cheerful and happy memories.
“Memoria” refers specifically to the regions of Minais Gerais and the Brazilian northeast, its hot climate, the religiousness of the people and its faith in miracles, calling to mind images of mysterious and surreal popular tales, where time flows slowly in an intimate dimension.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Deaf Safari is an audio collage of subjects that interest me and speak of the world I live in.
It is an album composed of sampled recordings from the media landscape that has been the soundtrack to my life over the last ten years.

The most important development in my current music and as can be heard on Deaf Safari has been my understanding of the beauty and power of the spoken word. I have experienced severe indifference to contemporary pop and electronic music as a whole over the last many years, as I have felt that social comment of any relevance has been ignored by music in general.
Deaf Safari attempts to bring sociopolitical comment into my music without taking any specific stand.
Sampled outside of musical influence directly from the news; from preacher sermons or from contemporary African documentaries.
I have finally created a story with sound that I feel accurately conveys my personal experience with the African world I live in.

My musical influences on this album lie mostly with local Kwaito house. Deaf Safari is an experiment within certain boundaries of the 4/4 genre, to create my own South African "house" album.
I am proud and inspired about the South African Kwaito house scene.
However, as with my first three albums, "Thin Shoes In June“ (2001) - "4/4 Down The Stairs“ (2002) and "Dark Days Exit“ (2005), I am still interested in making strange and evocative music.

American Roots music from the earlier periods of the 20th century has deeply resonated with me during the making of this album.
The incredible field recordings by Alan Lomax of Negro prison and chain gang work songs, and the
beautiful early recordings of artists such as Leadbelly have had a major influence on Deaf Safari.

I am truly excited to release this album and to start performing in the music world again. It has been ten years since I released "Dark Days Exit , and although I have been purposefully absent from the music world, I have none the less never stopped making music.
I feel that I have finally arrived at a mature and challenging stage in my pursuit of making emotional music of relevance .

A place far away from everything, yet right around the corner. A vision close enough to touch, yet so far away. In this environment, in their studio in Leipzig, the band ties together the songs, which first saw the light of day in a small spot enclosed by woods in the summer of 2014.  Each decision goes through every head, each chord is listened to a hundred times, from font to back and in reverse, each compromise: a triumph for the common cause. Not pompoous string arrangements fuel this album with grandeur, but rather the notion of a consensual nod, which has evolved within Marbert Rocel over the years.  “In the Beginning” is the fourth album by Marbert Rocel, a living utopia and a tart kiss for every purist genre lover. Nothing is hewn raw on here, rather sculptured delicately. Percussion is tickling from synth pads like dew, and the songs welcome you like good friends. Like Tinkerbell, Spunks voice guides through this strange familiar world, moving past big feelings and small gestures, to finally lead to where it all started: “In The Beginning”.

After one and a half decade and more than 390 releases, Compost Records bundles some of their finest tunes as Various Artists digital download compilation albums. 
The variety and full spectrum of Compost’s repertoire has never or rarely been presented in form of a musical genre compilation. These releases will be compiled or DJ-mixed by Compost’s artists and are available as digital downloads, except in some rare cases very very limited as 500 CDs. 
Since the remix work always played an important role for Compost, it ́s high time to give some of the best house and techno producers and remixers credit for their deluxe reworks of our repertoire! 
Rupert & Mennert did already a great job with compiling the Jazz Selection (Vol.1&2), the Downbeat Selection (Vol.1) and recently the Experimental Selection. With this first Remixes Selection, the focus is on club music, so our two dutch selectors chose nine deep remixes by the house experts Henrik Schwarz, Whignomy Bros., Llorca (Art Of Tones), Ripperton, Makossa & Megablast, Sasse, Dixon, Christian Prommer and Chopstick & Johnjon. 


Who are Rupert & Mennert?
They reside in Den Helder, The Netherlands. One of the most beautiful cities in the world. From there they send their fine radioshow into the wide world. The show is currently re-invented. The Sound of Swound ran for more then 200 shows. But it will be replaced by something even better: “Weird Pigs - not for copycats”. This will also run on www.djbroadcast.fm and www.play.fm.
Besides their love for broadcasting they produce music too. Together with Me Raabenstein they released, as Lagerfeltz, an album on Nonine Recordings, Berlin. Together with remix-work for Energie du Verre and Ensemble du Verre (Batterie Records, Hamburg) their release-roster is building. A remix on this very label is also in the making.

The first album of Web Web is very uncut, raw, live and direct. „Oracle“ is the first output of a German Supergroup. Check the musician credits below and you’ll get the score. The initial idea was to record a spiritual- jazz type of album, with all its imperfection as far as intonation, sound, influences of tunes... just like from their big jazz-heroes in the 70ies (e.g. Strata East, Black Jazz).
Web Web’s idea was to record a jazz jam session while to found and proclaim being a fictive band, a formation, which did not exist, while telling people, it would be a secret jam session recording of the Seventies. The prompt problem they were facing: Oh, we never would be able to play concerts, doing interviews, or placing photos on sleeves or post likeness images online. So they decided to reveal their real identities:
Web Web are: 
Roberto Di Gioia (Piano, Synth, Percussion), Tony Lakatos (Tenor- and Sopranosaxophone), Christian von Kaphengst (Upright Bass) and Peter Gall (Drums).

Roberto Di Gioia (Mastermind of Web Web): „The four of us set up very close in a big room, so we could hear and feel each other the best way. The music became more intensive, improvisations became more dynamic and it was impulsive.“

The album „Oracle“ was recorded on one day, only first takes were used!

We want to keep the burning spirit and the loose vibe we had during the recording session. And we play concerts the wild and free way we recorded this album. Web Web will be on tour 2018, but playing a few concerts in 2017. Furthermore, one main decision to blab their real identities was: The second Web Web album is recorded in June (with guests like the famous and unique Gembri-player and multiinstrumentalist and singer Majid Bekkas from Morocco).
Both albums were engineered, recorded and mixed by Jan Krause (Beanfield, Poets Of Rhythm).

Roberto Di Gioia: „Tony was tuning his Soprano too high, and his (overdubbed) tenor way too flat!

My synthesizers were somewhere in between...HA! We exactly had the sound we had in our minds, we had it exactly there were we wanted it: a bit of Sun Ra here, a bit of Horace Tapscott there.
On some tunes Tony’s soprano just sounds like a trumpet, since due to his weird tuning the soprano develops different frequencies in relation to other instruments.“

WEB WEB have had an intense year, they’ve played dozens of live concerts, where they proved their professionalism, closeness, power and spirituality once more.
As a nice but ideal step, Web Web could thrill the well-known singer and Gembri-player Majid Bekkas from Rabat, Morocco, who joined the group into the studio. Tony Lakatos was working with Majid and Joachim Kühn in the last years, also Roberto Di Gioia played with Majid and Klaus Doldinger. This brilliant musician with his north-african roots enriches the rough and bluntly concept of Web Web jazz. In „Maroc Blues“, a solo performance by Majid Bekkas, you can hear the warm vibrant Gembri, an instrument like an upright.bass or lute with three strings. Majid’s marvelous voice, which, reflecting the centuries-old tradition of the Berber tribes, perfectly underpins the great improvisation and spirituality of Web Web.
Majid Bekkas is one of the most famous musician and representative of Gnawa-Music, which has its domicile in the south of Sahara. Majid Bekkas studied at the Conservatory For Music & Dance in Rabat, while playing since 1975 classical acoustic guitar and oud. For example, he played with Archie Shepp, Louis Sclavis, Peter Brötzmann, Hamid Drake and lot of others in the world of jazz and world music.
„Dance Of The Demons„ (as well as the debut „Oracle“) was recorded live in Munich, engineered by Jan Krause (Beanfield, Poets Of Rhythm), produced by Roberto Di Gioia and Michael Reinboth.
The next, third Web Web album recording session are already scheduled for November 2018 with an outstanding famous guest musician, too.

The behaviour was closely monitored by closed circuit television. After one and a half decade and more than 400 releases, Compost Records bundles some of their finest tunes as Various Artists digital download compilation albums.
The variety and full spectrum of Compost’s repertoire has never or rarely been presented in form of a musical genre compilation. These releases will be compiled or DJ-mixed by Compost’s artists and are available as digital downloads, except in some rare cases very very limited as 500 CDs.

Again a dancefloor oriented remixes selection from self-proclaimed Compost Head Selectahs Rupert & Mennert. After the first successful volume they dived into some other genres, but the fine tracks that were left out in the first edition were always whispering and luring them back. So they started selecting again and after a while a new mix was assembled with maybe even bigger remixers. Maybe even the biggest that Compost ever released.

In this new 60 minute selection you can hear absolutele stunning performances by Peter Kruder, Carl Craig, Christian Prommer, Zed Bias, Llorca (Art Of Tones), Marcus Worgull and more! Made for the dancefloor, this mix is something you want to dance to. So play it at your party, in your car, on your iPod or make it a pre-mixed set to play at a festival (because you can't mix like Paris Hilton).

Who are Rupert&Mennert?
They reside in Den Helder, The Netherlands. One of the most beautiful cities in the world. From there they send their music into the wide world. They broadcast a highly irregular radioshow called Weird Pigs. They remix tracks and invent new concepts about making music.
Together with Me Raabenstein they released, as Lagerfeltz, an avant-garde album called Aar, on Nonine Recordings, Berlin.Together with remix-work for Energie du Verre, (twice) Ensemble du Verre (Batterie Records, Hamburg) and Timo Garcia (Compost) their release-roster is building.
The cherry on the cake is the selection of two of their remixes on the new Future Sounds of Jazz Vol. 12 (handpicked by the Compost head-honcho himself). Currently a remix for Marbert.Rocel is in the making and a new big secret project on Compost Records will see the light in the next year. This project is called: Brain Connection Series and more info is coming soon.
And of course you can expect more Compost Selections from their hand too. They just finished the Compost Female Vocals Selections Volume 1. Now the male vocalists will be put together into a selection too.
