Aliens was produced over a span of 10 years by Eugene Black fo ©specimenrecords_2023 Paul Rip is one of London’s original acid house pioneers, responsible for the seminal Clink Street parties in 1988. By 1992, he was running Plink Plonk Records with Mr.C, one of the UK’s most reliable sources of house-inflected techno, as well as recording for the label as Krypto and Underground Science. After leaving the label in 1998, he explored multi- sensory art and electro-acoustic music before forming Specimen Records in 2012, which continued the Plink Plonk ethos online. Now under his production name Eugene Black - Black Arts Circus and celebrating a rare 12-inch EP "Neuromancer, Paul still swims in the deep electronic waters running below Detroit as machine clouds of Carl Craig/Basic Channel textures swirl over the hypnotic groove of Tetracyclic for nearly nine minutes. Motor Neuron reaches further into deep space, while dub reggae inflections creep into the heaving swells under the slower ‘Ether’. The first time you hear Sonic Alchemy: Pathways And Transmutations, you might think you're listening to a soundtrack for a movie that hasn't been made yet. Cliff Dalton invites you to close your eyes and let your mind's eye roam free, to explore the hidden depths of your imagination.

As you journey through the album's six tracks, you'll encounter a wealth of different moods and atmospheres. From the ominous drones and pulsating rhythms of "Ancient Sorcery" to the tranquil beauty of "The Lake", each track is like a chapter in a novel that you can't put down.

One thing that is unique about Cliff Dalton's music is his ability to conjure up vivid imagery with sound. Take "Headswim", for example. The track opens with a disorienting swirl of synths, like you're being pulled through a vortex while hearing strange noises in the distance. You're not sure where you are, but you know you need to keep moving forward.

Elsewhere on the album, Cliff Dalton shows his versatility as a producer.
