Few are the artists who can claim to have as much influence in the international techno scene as Setaoc Mass. Producer, DJ, and label-owner, Sam Coates has been pushing forward club music with his work since his debut release in 2011.

Originally from the UK and now based in Germany, Setaoc Mass partially started out with an interest in IDM and electronica out of a small village outside Manchester he called home before ever stepping into techno. With a consistently strong stream of releases since the beginning, it was in 2015 he began his journey with SK-11 which initially was meant exclusively for self-releases. That was the case until Yant sent him demos, for which Coates created the SK-X sublabel, which became the center of attention in the scene since this first release.

Following this was a steady flow of releases that made their way in the world’s top selectors record bags, featuring new-comers like New York’s Holden Federico, or affirming strong careers like Holland’s TWR-72. With a relationship to techno tracks like tools for mixing tunneling and hypnotic sets for an attentive crowd, Setaoc Mass has brought his sets all over the world, often with tracks he either produced or pressed with the SK logo. Always in search of the next effect, the next artist, or the next track, Setaoc Mass’s ear has crafted him a career that has only been on the rise since it started.

VOLTAGE Podcast 28 - Setaoc Mass

For the first hour we have a blistering techno set from myself across my multi channel hybrid setup. My mix features new music from Benjamin Damage, Spekki Webu, Setaoc Mass and Arthur Robert. 

In the second hour we have a special live DJ set by Toru Ikemoto from Toyko Japan. Toru has had multiple techno releases on labels such as NECHTO, Cocoon Recordings, Plus Records and Suara. He graces us this month will an exclusive mix comprised of all his own productions, 18 tracks in total!

Two years ago, when I played the massive stage called Turmbühne, it was already an incredible experience. I don't think I've ever played a set quite like it since, and it marked the beginning of my journey. Now, being back and performing on another mega stage like Tanzwüste brings everything full circle!

Concept Selecta arrives to showcase sets with the best underground techno. In this podcast, we will invite a different DJ to share their sound. Our focus is to promote our love for this music and showcase both local and international talent. 

Kicking things off, our co-founder, Mobius, will be starting things off in this first episode.

Mobius, a DJ from Bogotá, combines intense rhythms with tribal sounds and the unmistakable groove of the ’90s. Driven by the vibrant energy of Bogotá, Mobius creates a sonic experience that not only makes the dance floor vibrate but also takes listeners on a deep and immersive journey through the universe of techno.

Concept Selecta 013: Sara B-Lion

A true driving force both within and beyond the South-American techno ecosystem, Zisko graces us with two hours of clinically laid down big-room punch and genre-unbound, off-kilter rhythms on steroid. Championing a sound both highly intense and surgically precise, the Argentinian DJ and producer has us surfing a rogue wave of frenzied analogue funk, sci-fi-informed industrial pound and proto-electroid impulsions. Not one for the faint-hearted, Zisko’s mix is galloping techno at its most eruptively driving and merciless, bound for heavy-duty, mid-set apexes and hi-impact mosh pits down the basement. Total smasher beware, this one’s cut from the heaviest alloy.
