Leuven-born and Brussels-based, Leonardd stumbled into the electronic music scene while working the numbers behind Affair and Horst. His sound, a hypnotic blend of dubby textures and techno whispers, draws from the wells of minimalism, chasing the fine line between introspection and groove. "i'm feeling a lot of tension in parties, enjoying ourselves, meeting incredible people in beautiful places, alongside so much geo-political despair and hopelessness, and most notably of course, genocide. i think there is a need to seek escape from this, in many of the ways we know how, but we must also not ignore the abuses we see. we should embrace the beauty and love that some of us are able to feel simultaneously with our grief, fear and compassion. and with this mix i wanted at least to try and touch on some of the challenges we face personally and communally, as well as the sadness, and hopefully some of the joy as well, the bubbling of optimism we feel when we unite against evil. we need to be aware of these contradictions, and feel everything as much as we are able to, and hopefully from there imagine a better way, accepting the light and dark and making steps to a way of living. i tried not to labour this too much, but it was very present in my mind when preparing the set, and when playing it - of course to some this is just a mix, but it's a form of communication that you're free to experience however you see fit x"

It's one thing to hop on the decks with someone during peak time at a party in a packed room like the first time Haruka and I played together in NYC but it's another to open a party during the last leg of RTTS weekend. So we started talking about the set a couple of months beforehand, but nothing really prepares you until you're in the middle of RTTS weekend itself. We were texting and chatting about the setup and direction throughout the weekend and eventually landed on keeping things a little funky and fun.  Playing with someone with a similar approach to DJing and also range really made the set feel so effortless for me and I feel that cohesion and the fun we had translated quite well to those that were in attendance.

We were both booked to play a Bunker party that night and with an hour left before our room was about to shut down, I asked Craig to jump on for an unplanned B2B.  Craig had already set the room up with a deep, super-diverse selection and then vibe in our room was so good, I will never forgot it. So when IT asked us to do it again we got hyped.

RTTS, Detroit
Our slot opened the last day of the three-day marathon, and other parties were running in the daytime too, so it felt like one long 72-hour session. Craig also played Movement. It was my first time in Detroit, so I wandered around, popped into a bunch of events, but spent every night back at Tangent Gallery with Craig—talking, listening to other artists, and getting a real feel for the room. That helped us lock in the vibe and refine the ideas we’d been tossing around for months.

The set
Two words kept coming up: funky and fun (maybe sexy too). I played only a few recent tracks but most were older finds with some electro slipped in naturally. In hindsight the whole thing was a back-and-forth between electro and deep, psychedelic techno, with extra flavours layered on top.

For American-born live performer and producer Conoley Ospovat, music is something deeply personal - a means of expressing and sharing the most heartfelt of emotions.  Hypnotic techno performances that are entirely self-produced and improvised take the listener on journeys through sound and emotion, texture and feeling. With his longest live set to date clocking in at close to 10 hours, these musical journeys weave together the variety of styles that comprise his vast and growing catalogue of original material.

Drawing from a diverse range of influences including techno, house, early electronica, synthpop, post-punk, jazz, and improvisational jam bands, Conoley creates uplifting dance music that is an interpretation of the world in sound. From hardware synthesizers and drum machines to ethnic acoustic instruments, field recordings and chopped-up audio to guitars and vocals; Conoley brings a finely-honed musical sense to his productions and performances based on more than 25 years in the studio and on stage.

He has performed live across America, Asia, and Europe.  He has supported the Wighnomy Brothers, John Tejada, Guillaume and the Coutu Dumonts, Extrawelt, and Los Hermanos. He has shared bills with Move D, Pier Bucci, Robag Wruhme, Gerald Mitchell, DJ Nobu, Modern Deep Left Quartet, and Marc Schneider.

Conoley has recently released on Otake Records, Cervidea Recordings, Kimochi Sound, Blankhaus, Teorema, and Continental Drift Records.

Ospovat co-founded Continental Drift Records with c_olvrin in 2009. He is currently based in Lincoln, Nebraska USA.
