This is one of the those songs that seems to be best listened to with headphones on, and in a room that has been robbed of the vast majority of its illumination. While the vocals and guitars almost seem to float & hover above the music, there’s also a magical energy within the ultra refined rhythm sections and incredibly well crafted synth parts. And amazing work within the subtleties of the track. There’s just so many layers of sound that weave in and out in the ebb and flow of it all. You guys really put on a Masterclass here. Finest of the finest, best of the best.

I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose someone suddenly from a random act of violence. I wrote this song from the perspective of someone who is grieving such a loss. Having a moment of peace only to be interrupted again by the grief which turns to anger and then some resolve at the end. Unfortunately I just heard about another shooting by another scumbag stranger. God bless the victims and their families. I wish the inspiration for this song never occurred, but it has.

What’s it like in paradise?

This is a song that started off as something else entirely different. Originally, it was a noodle that I recorded using a delay pedal. I gave it to Chris Maness, who put a killer bass lines on in. so, I went back and completely reimagined it as an actual song. I thought it sounded kinda swampy, so I thought of the most musical thing I could think of about a swamp. I remember the swarms of gnats that would form different patterns when I'd sing different vibrations at them. Hence, Dance of the Gnats.
