Recently I was diagnosed with two brain tumors.  I will have surgery in the near future.  With surgery I am told I have a 50% chance to lose hearing in my left ear. One tumor is growing in size on the hearing/balance nerve and in the inner auditory canal. This song is part of my new album that I will release before surgery. I thought I would try to blend some other instruments together
to make it sound a little bit like a music box, or an old timey Polyphon:

In the process as I neared completion, 
I occasionally found that, after I had done a SAVE
I then realized that I had DELETED a whole track.
So, by the time I had finished making this,
I had wished I had selected something else besides the mallets.
They were beginning to take their toll on my eardrums.

ALSO: When I was in high school, I bought a little book of Bach's 2 Part Inventions that also included the Brandenburg Concertos. I transcribed this particular tune as a piano piece. This one I played well over a thousand times and probably only got through it twice without making a mistake. As such, my mom estimates that number to be much more...poor thing.

Addendum:
I had just posted this on SC when I played it for my mom.
She passed away within a couple of weeks after that,
but she was never one to go on about these soundtracks I would make.
On this particular one though, for the first time ever,
she said, "Turn it up a little bit."

Now coming from her, that was high praise.

When my dear Norwegian friend and vocalist Oddrun Eikli   https://soundcloud.com/oddrun-eikli  let me know that she was really taken with my piano piece `Hymn To The Heavens'  @  https://soundcloud.com/gary-courtland-miles/hymns-to-the-heavens  I jumped at the chance to engage with her and sent the piano track immediately. 😁 Thankfully, she replied that as she had a special feeling for it, that she would love to try. And OMG, did she ever!  The result is a 50/50 collaboration that many listeners have described as 'Stunning'. I agree whole-heartedly.

Several months later, Oddrun wrote again, this time enclosing her Vocal tracks and a rough mix of how it sounded to her as a whole. Needless to say, she totally `blew me away`with the depth and beauty of her creative contribution.  I am still in awe of what she did. Here's what she said about the experience.  

    " I sing from the heart. 
       I have sung again and again until I found my way with the music. 
       It is a meditation, it is gratitude to what was, what is, and what is to come.
       I am so grateful for this journey in your music. 
       It has enriched my life. 
       With your wonderful music and this journey, I feel such joy and  
       tranquillity. W we will be best friends forever.

I composed flautando orchestral strings and emotional solo strings around Adam4le's (soundcloud.com/adam4le) track found here: soundcloud.com/adam4le/darkness-original-instrumental. Adding guzheng with glockenspiel and celeste, gave this soundtrack an Asian flavor. The solo strings mimic the Chinese erhu.
