Hugh Peaker is a Canadian composer of experimental music whose works have been performed by leading ensembles including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Vancouver New Music, Arraymusic, New Works Calgary, Continuum Contemporary Music, The Burdocks, and Concentus Corvinus, as well as by ensembles formed for specific projects. 

He studied composition at the University of Victoria and pursued postgraduate work at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Walter Zimmermann and Gösta Neuwirth. He received first place in the Vancouver New Music Competition and has participated in masterclasses with Christian Wolff, Michael Finnissy, Dieter Schnebel, Clarence Barlow, Rudolf Komorous, and Louis Andriessen.

Composer, improviser, vocalist. Works under her own name and a wide variety of alter egos.

I'm into Just Intonation (JI), which is using harmonics (or undertones) to generate music. Over time, my profile will fill up with wonderful and melodious New Harmony, fresh from the infinite vaults of the original and best source of harmony, Just Intonation.

I’ve written some papers on the music theory of Just Intonation. You can check them out via the arXiv link below. Topics include the mathematical analysis of harmony (in Just Intonation), and a notation system to cover all of Just Intonation.

Each composition is based on the transformation of the various textile patterns or weaves into musical language. The methodology of mapping is concluded in PhD thesis at Durham University.  Textile patterns reflects distinct motions and atmosphere due its different structure and description. Indian ragas serves for the structure of harmony in order to construct a close relationship between sounds and textile patterns. Every Indian ragas has its own time, duration, specific mode of pitches as the textile patterns, which reflect various cultures and weaving methods.
