The Metalheadz back catalogue features almost every major figure in the history of drum and bass, and is one of the most innovative labels out there, consistently crossing boundaries with its releases since 1994. The labels output continues to showcase a maturing genre of music that displays influences from reggae, hip-hop, house and techno with highly-sophisticated and intricately-produced tracks, contrary to the image of the music that is typically presented by the mass media.

Releasing music from some of the biggest names out there whilst at the same time pushing and letting new talent break through are the reasons why Metalheadz continues to stay at the forefront of electronic music.

The Metalheadz label was also the driving force behind the seminal Sunday Session Club Nights, which achieved legendary status at London's Blue Note club. Today, Metalheadz club nights are often sell outs with the label also regularly hosting stages at some of the biggest festivals across the world.

An artist synonymous with Drum and Bass, Ed Rush has become a byword for cutting edge, forward thinking
beats. Moving through the sounds of hip hop and electro in his early musical years, Ed Rush soon became
interested in the emerging London jungle scene.
Showing his innate ability to manipulate chopped breakbeats and piles of sub-low bass, it wasn't long before Ed
Rush and Nico dropped the huge 'Bludclot Artattack'. The first classic to Ed Rush’s name, this proved to be a
platform for another collaboration with DJ Trace. Simultaneously developing his own style whilst pushing the
boundaries of a genre, classics such as ‘The Mutant' and 'Guncheck' put Ed Rush’s attitude injected productions
firmly on the map.
One of the pioneers of new sound dubbed Techstep, Ed Rush soon teamed up within another leading light,
Optical; to form what would become one of the most progressive production teams in the scene. In 1998, Ed
Rush & Optical released an album universally recognized as changing the landscape of Drum and Bass forever
with the legendary, ‘Wormhole’ on Virus Recordings. Still regarded as one of the main catalysts for the Neuro and
Techstep sound, ‘Wormhole’ paved the way for household names such as Noisia, Bad Company and many more.
Since then Ed Rush has released a plethora of genre-defining tracks and albums, both solo and with his partner in
crime, Optical. Still busy at work on a new Ed Rush & Optical LP due in late 2013, Ed Rush is not merely content
with helping shape the scene and remaining one of its most consistent producers. Beginning his own venture, he
now looks to the future with the birth of Piranha Pool. An outlet for showcasing new talent and veterans alike,
Piranha Pool represents what will be the future of Drum and Bass.

His first single for Metalheadz, 'To Shape the Future'/'Raging Calm' (1997) and his collaborative material with Ed Rush, such as the Wormhole, album (1998) were archetypal developments in the style. The duo followed this debut album with The Creeps (2000) and The Original Doctor Shade (2003), as well as countless singles and remixes. Randy J has been a part of the Los Angeles underground since the 80s. Having been a DJ and rabid vinyl collector and a very lucky employee of a record shop that not only sold UK imports - but sold used records and UK music import magazines like Melody Maker and NME (New Musical Express). He latched onto the best of the genres and bought as much music as possible at employee prices. This led to DJing in his teens. Becoming a DJ was not much of a "thing" back then - there were DJs - but not like today...when only fringe stereo stores sold any DJ equipment (ie Technics turntables or DJ amplifiers or needles for playing records - let alone, everything else). Wanting to DJ was not a common wish among most teens in L.A. in the late 80s. Early on, Hip-hop, Funk and Electro breaks were Randy's concentration - but he played anything that rocked the early parties he played. New Wave and 80s Boogie (disco) and even Acid House - were already in his bags. The rest is multiple decades of playing above ground and in the underground. No genre is off-limits...if it dope - it's dope. Randy J continues to play at CAMP OG, Blipsy BAR and all sorts of underground events - mostly in the L.A. area.

Any blurb about Colin Dale's career is bound to exclude many seminal moments, such is the extent of his achievements in almost four decades behind the decks. In 1982, Dale started warming up for Tim Westwood in central London clubs like Heaven. He cut his teeth playing soul, funk and boogie in clubs and on pirate radio station Phase One, until landing a slot on Kiss FM in 1986. Over the next 16 years, Dale became London's answer to The Wizard, with his Abstrakt Dance show (and related Outer Limits mix CDs) introducing a whole generation to the cutting-edge sounds of Detroit, Chicago and beyond.

Dale is a visionary DJ, one of the first to explore the links between funk, boogie and proto-house, then going through phases of industrial techno, Detroit techno, acid and the techier house and Deep Tech sound he spins today. Aside from his DJing, Dale is a fixture of UK dance music, as a former dancer, promoter of legendary parties like Knowledge, artist manager and label owner. As a producer and remixer, his credits range from an early record on Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label, to the EPs he continues to drop on Abstrakt Dance Records today. He doesn't rest on the success of his hallowed days, continuing his presence on the London club circuit and tirelessly pushing his sound into the future.
