Our prompt for Disquiet Junto #0642 was, loosely interpreted, to make something percussive from the sound of carbonation.

I broke out my stereo field recorder and sat down with a bottle of Sprite and a wine glass. I recorded various sounds from opening the bottle to pouring it, bubbles in crescendo and a bizarre but almost indiscernible tinkling sound of the soda in the wine glass from very close up.

I found the opening-the-bottle sample the most percussive, so I set to work on making it into a loop. It sounds a bit like Slender Fungus to me, but I like it. I added a few low-key layers for additional percussion, played a David J style bass part, and some very light electric piano to round things out.

Meanwhile, the script idea was percolating. I recalled how much fun I had with "Making Ice at Home May Seem Overwhelming" (https://soundcloud.com/coralineada/making-ice-at-home-may-seem-overwhelming-disquiet0627) and decided to do another absurd synthesized voiceover— this time, warning against the evils of soda pop.

There's so little information about this amazing renga poet that I decided to share another poem written by him. This one is part of a longer sequence, written in 1463:

Only the moon remains
floating in the memory upon
Kinokawa River—
pale glistening waves,
the blank wake of drowned men.
 
About this poem, the author said: "Among the hundreds and thousands who have drowned and perished in this river
due to the disorders in this province were those whom I knew in former days. Often
I would walk along the river, gazing at the moon."

Shinkei (1406-75) was a renowned renga poet and critic, best known for his two-part work "Sasamegoto" (Murmured Conversations). Don’t remember but must have been...   some kind of party 

Invited to a party, last Saturday night
Got me all dressed up, I just-had to look right
Lot’s of pretty women walking about
Thought I did my best to not freak out
