Listening to MADMADMAD can be delightfully disorienting, and that quality extends to the
band’s collagist and homemade visual art that accompanies their music. “History goes in cycles,
and we feel there’s a correlation with what happened a century ago, when everything was so
chaotic and people had a hard time making sense of what was going on in the world,” Benji
explains while describing how the band take cues from the 20th century’s Dadaist movement. “It feels like we’re at that moment again—where it’s quite hard to make sense of everything with so much information every day. There was quite a lot of confusion back then after the first world
war and a global pandemic, and the response of the arts was to reflect the nonsensical place
the world was at. We feel heavily influenced by that, so that’s what we put in our music and
visuals.”

GRAEME PARK & MIKE PICKERING - LIVE AT THE HAÇIENDA 1989

Many people have different interpretations of what acid house is. I unfortunately missed the U.K scene by a few years so never got to live it but for me this mix epitomises what I would have wanted to hear. If you were lucky enough to live through the scene then hopefully you’ll find a moment that’ll take you right back to the dance floor.

For me the beauty of sets during the 87-90 era was never knowing if the next track would be an acid, techno, hip house or piano house track but you could pretty much guarantee it was gonna be a banger! I’ve tried to replicate that sequence throughout the set.

Many fresh edits and a few newer acid tunes are included to spice things up but as always I’ve tried to keep them as close to the originals as possible. Some tunes blatantly weren’t made during the era but fit it so well I just couldn’t resist.

With that in mind turn it up as this one’s mixed to make you move! Peace, Love & Unity! 😎

Welcome to Part 2 of the Hacienda special Word Is Love show where we continue to celebrate some of the finest Dance music that played on the Hacienda Dancefloor in Manchester, U.K. throughout the late 80's and into the 90's.

This time round there are remixes of New Order, Happy Monday's, Primal Scream and Sub Sub with tracks by Andrew Weatherall, Todd Terry, 808 State, K-Klass, Roland Clark and Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk including some familiar classic Floor Fillers you may recognise.

This second part of the Word Is Love show special focuses on House, Acid House, Electro and Techno with several deeper tracks and breaks.

It's a unique Hacienda experience covering a number of genre's showcasing the broad range of music that used to frequent this iconic club over the years.

I’ve decided to remake my first ever and probably most popular house mix in glorious hi-fidelity sound originally recorded over 25 years ago. Many may regard this as the golden age of early 90’s house between 91-93 and no doubt you’ll recognise many tunes taken from various sets including Sasha at Universe - Pleasure Planet, probably the most popular house mix amongst UK ravers to date! For me, this is where my house journey began and I still draw a lot of influence from the early 90’s.
