2. Quantized and beatmapped rhythm section track in Reason.
3. Sequenced a short Fender Rhodes solo.
4. Light mastering with Izotope Ozone and FabFilter plugins.

Voyage – Kenny Barron (feat. Mauro Sereno, bass)

I uploaded some of my music to Suno and tried the cover feature. I found that Suno works best with conventional melody and harmony, as in my tune “Wise Owl.”

1. Generated ~60 cover variations of Wise Owl in different styles.
2. Chose sections that stayed close to the reference melody/harmony (mostly Latin jazz, salsa, fusion, funk, third stream, rock).
3. Used Lalal.ai to create instrument, bass, drum, and percussion stems.
4. Used Melodyne to fix melodic/harmonic issues where feasible.
5. Sequenced edited stems in Reason, adding pads to smooth transitions.
6. Interesting behavior: Suno treated the first chorus of the guitar solo as material for a brass soli / klangfarbenmelodie passage (2:03).
7. Light mastering (EQ, compression, limiter).

I'm impressed with the results. The violin and guitar inflections are uncannily accurate, enough to make me wonder if they came from commercial recordings, though the tune’s conventional melody/harmony likely made them easy for Suno to approximate.

Wise Owl (Suno Variations)

I uploaded Slim Pickings (2022) into Suno for another cover experiment, exploring hard rock/metal styles with big drums/electric guitars/synths in contrast to the acoustic original.

1. Generated ~170 cover variations. Two were excellent and kept the melody and harmony intact.

2. Used Suno material for the head and outro only. Suno did not follow the original chord progression for solos, so I kept the original middle section and guitar solo and added subtle percussion via Suno Studio.

3. Extracted stems with Lalal.ai and applied Melodyne to correct melodic/harmonic issues where possible.

4. Arranged the material in Reason, quantized stems, matched stereo width between Suno sections and original track, and finished with light mastering (EQ/compression/limiting).
