So excited to welcome our next podcast guest, Benjamin Philippe Zulauf (Hummingbird by BPZ), who will be bringing the vibes to our series with an incredible and eclectic two-hour journey...

Bio:
This story must begin with an old Roland analog drum machine and a well used Juno synthesizer over many a late evenings ago in the late 90s. Before clubs, warehouse raves and second hand record stores, it was just some young guy with his gear in a cool basement out in the Australian countryside, making up beats purely on instinct and hours of experiment. These are the core essentials if you like to what makes this multi-national, multi-tasking and multi-skilled artist tick.

Benjamin Philippe Zulauf is no stranger to change and evolution, his own music has been heavily influenced from different cities he has lived in, from Melbourne with the likes of Phil K, Revolver and Honkytonks to Lausanne with La Ruche, Ripperton, Agnés and Digitaline making their mark. Then it was Berlin with the likes of Mike Shannon, CDV, DJ Sotofett and Panorama Bar to currently in Leeds with Cosmic Slop and Hope House showing the way. You will hear bits off of these scenes in his sets and music productions, be it techno, deep house, electro, acid, break beats or minimal electronica, it is less about a genre and more about feeling and a story being played out. 

You will find Benjamin these days still hard at work and pushing forwards with new material. His label is now established and his own productions are being championed by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Peace Division, DJ Rolando (UR), LTJ Bukem, DJ Bone, Fred P, Terry Frances, Barac, DJ Sprinkles and Âme. It would not be out of place to say that he has earned this over the past years and that nothing ever comes without the hard work and dedication to that love of drum machine and synthesizer noise.

Eric Svensen's Liebe zur Musik begann in den 80er Jahren. Er begann schon früh, kleinere Underground-Partys aus einer Mischung von Pop,Rock und Hip-Hop zu veranstalten und wurde nach und nach wie magisch von der elektronischen Musik angezogen. Die Liebe zu diesem Stil machte sich immer mehr in seinen Sets bemerkbar.

Ende der 90er Jahre zog es ihn in nach Köln und es dauerte nicht lange, bis er einige Gigs in kleineren Clubs an Land zog. Nach einer kreativen Pause fingen seine Finger wieder an zu kribbeln und seine Leidenschaft zur Musik begann von neuem aufzublühen. Durch Gigs im Zimmermann's (aka Sven in Space) oder Odonien (aka Sven in Space) war er wieder zurück in der Spur. 
Später war er dann unter seinem neuen Künstlernamen Eric Svensen als regelmäßiger Gast beim Kölner Radiosender 674.fm und sonus.fm zu hören.

2020 bekam er die Gelegenheit auf der OdoniaNoire spielen zu dürfen, einem Event, der die kölner Lokalmatadore der elektronischen Szene förderte und vereinte.

Parallel begann er mit Nodepond eine kleine und feine Veranstaltungsreihe namens HouzeVerliebt ins Leben zu rufen, die sich mit VisualKunst beschäftigte und den weiblichen Nachwuchs zu fördern im Fokus hatte. 

Musikalisch lässt sich Eric Svensen in keine Schublade stecken und sein Repertoire reicht von Ambient, Trip Hop, Electronica, Deep House, Tech-House bis hin zu Techno in all ihren Facetten. Dadurch vereinen sich in seinen Sets viele verschiedene Genres zu einer Symbiose. 
Wer ihn schon einmal gehört hat, spürt, dass er durch seine DJ Sets einen kleinen aber feinen Mindtrip erzeugt.

The Swiss, British and Australian multinational has been exploring machine-made music since the late 1990s, recreating in his own way off the classic sounds emanating out of Detroit, Chicago and London on an old MC-303 and Juno 106 synthesiser. His sounds continue today to be influenced by the House, Acid, Techno, Electro and Breakbeat music genres prominent in the US and UK scenes. Through the merging of the gritty with the soulful via both old analog and new digital tools, his music always delivers a raw but emotive touch.

His studio is fitted out with a small collection of classic Roland units, helping him keep true to the authentic sound he loves of the 303s, 909s and 808s. Evident in his own releases for others and on his own imprint Hummingbird, which has gained him regular support from a growing list of industry DJs such as Laurent Garnier, DJ Rolando, Vince Watson, Danny Tenaglia, Roy Davis Jr., DJ Sprinkles, DJ Bone, Ian Pooley, Fred P, nd_Baumecker, DVS1, Colin Dale, Gerd, Marcel Dettmann, Slam, Tintonton Duvante, Passarani, Trevor Rockcliffe, Truncate, Terry Frances, Quarion, Takaaki Itoh, Vincent Neumann, Tensal as well as being featured on NTS.

As a DJ both resident or touring his journey has taken him around the World to perform and play feature at venues such as La Ruche, Club der Visionäre, Sunday Breakfast Zurich, Griessmuehle, Brown Alley, Freedom Mills, MOS New Delhi and FUMP Thailand. He's supported acts such as Eric Powell, Brothers’ Vibe, Pier Bucci, Simon Coyle, Il Bosco, John Heckle, Hot Since 82, Stimming, Noir, Livio & Roby, Shonky, Placid, Camea, Matthew Styles and Tobi Neumann.
