Octo Friends #17 - Andre Mayborn

Today our Sensodelic partner is Coordese! Currently living in Kassel, Germany, he is producing his own tracks and diving into the technical world of sounds, besides that, he studies Social Work at the University and contribute to the Music Scene in the city - helping out, playing at events and making their own, with the collective @Dreiradfahrt.  Since the scene there mostly features techno music, They bring more organic slow beats into the mix to reach other soundscapes.
In his words: "The mix was recorded at home with a very good friend of mine (Kiki Kokolores), with whom I started to get more into the Podcast scene. And there is Manucho, a few years ago, an Artist from Buenos Aires in Argentina, who showed us really how beautiful it can be to look at the slower side of electronic music. And yeah, since then I started mixing and collecting downtempo music and really fell in love in a different way with that. Normally I like to do downtempo with a little techno infusion, but I decided that for the Senso family, I wanted to do something more organic and warm with a little touch of psychedelic grooves. I tried to bring some of that Manucho vibe I fell in love with, in the first place! I hope it worked and hope you and the people who will listen to it enjoy. Big love from Germany!"

Hoje nosso parceiro Sensodélico é o Coordese! Atualmente reside em Kassel, na Alemanha, e está produzindo suas próprias faixas enquanto mergulha no mundo dos sons, além disso, estuda Trabalho Social na Universidade e contribui com a cena musical da cidade - ajudando, tocando e fazendo eventos com o coletivo @Dreiradfahrt. Como a cena lá é composta principalmente de techno, eles trazem batidas lentas mais orgânicas alcançando outras paisagens sonoras
Nas palavras dele: A mixagem foi gravada em casa com um grande amigo meu (Kiki Kokolores), com quem comecei a entrar mais na onda do Podcast. Também teve Manucho, alguns anos atrás, um Artista de Buenos Aires na Argentina, que nos mostrou como realmente pode ser lindo olhar para o lado mais lento da música eletrônica. E sim, desde então comecei a mixar e colecionar músicas downtempo e realmente me apaixonei por um diferente caminho. Normalmente eu gosto de fazer sets de downtempo com um pouco de infusão de techno, mas decidi que para a família Senso, eu queria fazer algo mais orgânico e quente com um toque de grooves psicodélicos. Tentei trazer um pouco daquela vibe do Manucho pela qual me apaixonei, pela primeira vez! Espero que tenha funcionado e espero gostem.

“...by maintaining the pensive state felt at the time of soft and steady exhalation and during passive retention after exhalation.” The sutra refers to a method of breath control which also relaxes the mind and keeps it from fluctuating.

For Tobi (and us, too), the most important element in music is always the rhythm. As we’re constantly inhaling and exhaling (pracchardana) through our lives, the rhythm reflects this principle of existance and so does the mix you are about to hear.

The Aztec is one of the few older civilizations that featured mandatory education at home and in schools. Every child was educated, no matter his or her social status, whether noble, commoner or slave.

All children were taught a large collection of sayings called the huehuetlatolli, which incorporated Aztec ideas and teachings. The Aztec culture expected well-behaved people so children were taught to be humble, obedient and hardworking. 

The huehuetlatolli included many sayings on all aspects of life, from welcoming newborn infants to the family to what to say at the death of a relative. Every few years, the children were called to the temple and tested on how much they had learned of this inherited cultural knowledge.

For the first 14 years of life, boys and girls were taught at home by their parents. After that, the boys attended either the noble school, called a calmecac, or the commoners’ school, the telpochcalli. Girls went to a separate school, where they learned household skills, religious rituals, singing and dancing or craftwork. Some talented girls were chosen to be midwives and received the full training of a healer. Other athletically talented girls might be sent to the house of dancing and singing for special training.

As music lovers, we all asked ourselves at least once what music is about. What is its function? How did it become such an important component of our lives? Maguera (https://soundcloud.com/maguera) questioned himself about it too, and he concluded that for him it is all about communication and profound emotions. This talented Italo-Danish composer, musician, and electronic producer believes that music is the strongest medium available to reach people, and he employed it to send out a call to self-reflection to our listeners and to himself. In fact, he told us of his thoughts about the decreasing ability of the people to feel empathy and how this is affecting our essence. This is the main theme of the splendid mix he recorded for UCR. His concern towards the rising narcissism and egomania, as well as his hope for an imminent change of direction, drove the artist in the recording of the mix. It’s possibly the duel between these controversial strong emotions that makes this mix so beautifully heterogeneous, with melancholic notes alternating with gleeful and dreamy moments. The set consists mostly of Maguera’s own productions played live, which the artist blended masterfully with others’ tracks, and it’s meant to stimulate our capability to travel through our thoughts and feelings about empathy. Despite his elusiveness and humbleness, Maguera has made great display of the communicative power of his sound and of his moral depth. We at UCR are delighted to share his set with our listeners and welcome his call to self-reflection.

Nostalgic for the good ole Latin-American downtempo? Then this mixtape is just what you need with @lagartijeando delivering an ode to the Andean sound directly to your soul! Despite the international acclaim this great Argentinian producer has received over the last couple of years, he chose to stay in the small village where he was born and raised. His productions, featuring local instruments and motifs, manifest his admirable attachment to his origins and the traditional music of his homeland. His first approach to music, at the age of 14, was accidental because “nobody wanted to play bass guitar in town” so he learned it and started to play with his friends. It is astonishing how this almost random first step awakened his dormant talent for music which turned a boy into a brilliant electronic producer and music professor. The set that Lagartijeando prepared for UCR features many of his latest productions including seven unreleased tracks. Gentle instrumental sounds of flutes and drums, organic samples and a vibrant electronic beat blend beautifully into an enchanting musical journey which we are pleased to offer to our listeners. Ambient soundscapes merge with organic textures taking in folkloric influences from the Peruvian Andes to the Pampas of Argentina to the plains of Venezuela and Pacific coast of Colombia and beyond, all with a deep electronic twist. Featuring recent classics from the likes of Lagartijeando, History of Colour and Matanza as well as fresh music from the likes of Ohxalà, DJ Nirso and Daniel Haaksman’s rework of Çantamarta.

Cal Jader is one of the musical activists behind London Latin cultural protagonists Movimientos and co-host of one of London's finest tropical / global bass parties Love Carnival. With his trademark blend of latin beats, carnival rhythms and fresh global sounds he is helping to soundtrack London's underground music scene with regular sets across the capital, as well as around the UK and Europe. 

He's also played at clubs and festivals around the globe as far a field as Mexico City, Beirut, Bogota, Kuala Lumpar, Istanbul, and a 10 date tour all around Brazil in Rio, Salvador, Brasilia and at carnival in Recife. In the UK he's played everywhere from festivals like Bestival and Glastonbury as well as closing WOMAD in Fuerteventura, and has shared stages with world class live acts like Manu Chao, Bomba Estereo, Novalima, and Calle 13 as well as Chico Trujillo and La Yegros.
