Sould Out - Gelagat Anak Muda [Free Download]

Fela Kuti is one of my all-time favorite artist, both for his immense musical legacy, but also for his humanist political message. 

Here is a rework I dared to make of one of his last song, O.D.O.O. (overtake don't overtake overtake), released in 1989.

As much as I love the intense groove emanating from this almost 32mn-long track, I also find it particularly interesting as it's a kind of condensed summary of Fela's decades-long political fight. 

In this song he references in a kind of endless mashup some of his most famous tracks like "Zombie", "Shuffering and Shmiling", "Kalakuta Show" or "Unknown Soldier", to once again denounce the fake post-war emancipations of many African countries from colonies to military-led regimes pretending to be democracies.  

Hope you'll enjoy this condensed housy take, but whether you do or not, I guarantee you should take 32 minutes of your time to dig into the timeless original if you're not familiar with It already.

About this edit :
Here's my drummed-up, percussion-rich rework of Diane Tell's timeless sensual groove "Je Suis En Amour", with a special focus on the warm and sexy chorus parts. In a post-coved world, I already picture myself playing this during a DJ set, at sunset, in a cosy open-air beach bar. Or maybe in a cool place overlooking the majestic Saint-Laurent with funky Quebec dancers :)

About Diane Tell :
Diane Tell is a Canadian musician who was born in Quebec City, Quebec. As one of Québec’s pioneering female singer-songwriters, she proposed her personal repertoire over the course of her first four albums. She won six Félix prizes before the age of 25: breakout artist, best artist, best album, best song and, twice, songwriter of the year. Several of her songs have become SOCAN Classics and Si j’étais un homme was inducted in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.  Over the past 25 years, Tell has toured relentlessly, written, composed and recorded in Canada, France, the U.K. and Switzerland. In 2018, she produced her 15th studio album of original material in Montréal. As an independent artist, she owns the phonographic rights of her entire catalogue, manages her own publishing company, and produces and finances her albums herself. In her blog, Diane Cause Musique, she engages up-and-coming artists by explaining the inner workings of the music industry.
