Today, June 24 is Saint-Jean-Baptiste day, a big celebration in the Canadian province of Quebec. It was brought to Canada by French settlers celebrating the traditional feast day of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. El Extravagante wants to give an hommage to St-Jean with his cumbia twist of one of the most popular folkolore song " Le Ziguezon Zinzon " by La Bottine Souriante.

About La Bottine Souriante 
Folk band from Quebec, Canada. The band specializes in traditional French Canadian folk music, often with a modern twist. It's a four-piece horn section with traditional instruments such as accordion, fiddle, guitar, piano and double bass, in order to add an element of jazz to their music.

¨El Extravagante¨ from Santiago/Chile is one of these unique characters you find in South America, a unique mix between a street poet and synthesizer shaman, he’s an electronic folklore (and also of course CUMBIA) local hero in Montréal, who wants to save the Earth through spreading a South American vision of the world!¨ Apart from being an artist, Felipe Nadeau, the man behind the character is a culture and arts manager co-directing the beautiful project known as @CosmovisionRecords, spreading the love for the new forms of folklore and electronic music from LatinAmerica and the world.

Susana Baca is one of the reigning queens of Afro-Peruvian music, a rich mix of infectious folkloric rhythms such as "Samba Lando" and "Alcatraz".  Much like the Cuban son, the magic of Afro-Peruvian music centers on the meeting of African drums and Spanish guitars.  I first heard Baca on David Byrne's Luaka Bop compilation singing her incredible classic "Maria Lando" and have been fascinated ever since.
