DB Cohen’s ‘Find A Way’ is filled with reggae goodness from beginning to end. Featuring champion MC’s D’Oxman & Mark Professor, heavyweight production and an original mix from Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove, a North Street remix from the Don, Ashley Beedle, an Echolocation Dub from Dub Maestro, Wrongtom and superb full colour artwork by Richard Epps, this 10” delivers a knockout ‘punch’ with versions to suit everyone’s musical persuasions.

DB Cohen's sound can be described as a mix of Bob Dylan, Ray Davies, Madness, The Stones and Two Tone Ska. During a four year stay in Japan, Dan began writing and performing his own songs and after forming the band 'The Dogs Bollox', he played the Tokyo club circuit learning his trade.  On returning to London in 2008, it was in Soho's Madame JoJo's where DB approached Snowboy at his ‘Good Foot’ night and asked Mark to listen to his demo. Within six months, Snowboy was producing Dan’s debut album, bringing a wealth of knowledge and amazing musicians to DB Cohen's analog recorded debut album 'Scratchcards & Wine'. 

Tracks from 'Scratchcards & Wine' were championed by Gary Crowley on his ‘Absolute’ radio show, featured on ‘BBC Introducing’, the French version of the hit TV show 'The Voice' and chosen by Bang and Olufson to feature on their recent promotional video. Dan was also added to Glastonbury Festival's ‘2014 Emerging Talent Competition’, performed for 17,000 on the main stage at the Village Green Festival and headlined London's famous 100 Club earning him rave reviews.

Hil St Soul was born Hilary Mwelwa in Lusaka, Zambia and relocated to London with her family at the age of 5. From childhood, she adopted her father’s love of music, as their home was immersed with the sounds of traditional Zambian music along with American R&B/soul icons such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. As a graduate of London’s Westminster University, Hilary had early ambitions to go into the science field and earned a degree in biological sciences. While at university, Hilary started to explore her musical interests and after taking a year off from studies, she recorded her first demo - Aretha Franklin classic ‘Until you come back to me’. Having had no formal musical training, Hilary followed her heart and today, she commands a place in the global soul family with a formidable discography to her name including Soul Organic, Copasetik & Cool, Black Rose and now her track ‘Soul Train’ taken from Tom Glide’s #1 LP, ‘Divas Got Soul’.

The result of Hil St Soul’s collaboration with Tom is the achingly beautiful ‘Soul Train’; the lyrics reference soul greats, positive vibes and uplifting sentiments – forget about your troubles and get on board.

Ramrock Blue Records are incredibly proud to welcome Paul Randolph to the label with his outstanding track ‘Heavy’. Already released in its original version, Ashley Beedle + the North Street crew, Darren Morris & Jo Wallace put another couple of rotations on the composition. There’s a Sun Ra meets Ronnie Foster vibe going on in the ‘Space’ remixes and a nod towards Mr White in the ‘Bass Goodness’ versions. Whatever your soulful leaning, there should be a remix there that covers your bases. Paul explains the inspiration behind ‘Heavy’:
“The instrumental track composed by Vernon D. Hill was presented to me shortly after the transition of Gil Scott Heron.  Ironically, earlier that year I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in Berlin. Moved by this experience, I researched Mr. Heron’s life, short stories, and poems which later influenced the lyrics to Heavy”.

Multi-talented Detroit Artist Paul Randolph, aka “Randolph”, comes from a musical family.  As a result, he began honing his musical skills at a very young age.  Born in Philadelphia, PA he and his family relocated to Sao Paulo, Brazil when he was six years old.  "My first exposure to music was, primarily, from my Dad.  He played jazz trombone in high school and college.  He, my mother, and paternal grandparents exposed me to a wide range of musical genres. Ultimately, this all had a major impact on my decision to make music my career”.

Settling in Detroit during his early teen years, he graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Marketing - continuing to perform music while working at a variety of other jobs.  Randolph eventually put all of his focus into his music. A versatile musician who plays guitar as well as percussion, the bass is the instrument that Randolph “fell in love with". 

Randolph has performed with such greats as Fela drummer Tony Allen, Odetta, Dennis Coffey and Johnny Johnson, to name a few.  He was lead vocalist and bassist for the Detroit-based New Orleans-style funk and blues band Mudpuppy.  After his stint with Mudpuppy, he went on to perform and record with Amp Fiddler, Carl Craig, iSoul8, As One, Catz n Dogz, Makoto, Tettory Bad, Zed Bias, and currently, the Berlin-based, Jazzanova Live.  Randolph's music has been categorized into many different genres, pop, rock, neo soul, jazz, funk, blues, and electronic.  His first solo CD, "This Is What It Is" was released on Kenny Dixon, Jr.'s Mahogani Music imprint in 2004.  His second solo project, "Lonely Eden" was released in 2007 and featured collaborations with notables, Stephanie McKay ("Broken") and Waajeed of the Platinum Pied Pipers (title track "Lonely Eden").  His commercial work has included, most notably, MGM Casino, McDonald’s and Corona Beer. 

Although a bit secretive about his latest projects, Randolph has had releases between 2012 and 2016 which include, “Chips n Chitlins” with legendary dub step producer Zed Bias of Manchester, UK; Kiko Navarro, “Captain of Her Heart”; Jazzanova ,“Funkhaus Sessions”; Isoul8, “Stay Stay Stay” and ”Waves of Love”; DJ Kawasaki “Where Would We Be”; Boddhi Satva “Soldier”;  and Mikael Delta “This Is The Place”.  Randolph 2017 releases include a collaboration he both wrote and produced for Kathy Kosins and her executive producer Kamau Kenyatta for Membran Records “Could You Be Me”.  

Upcoming releases in 2018 include - “Heavy” the single with remixes by Ashley Beedle, Jazzanova - “It’s Beautiful”, Hubert Laws, Alex Attias, and more. In 2018 Randolph will launch his new label Sun Temple Records. He is currently touring with the Jazzanova “Live Band” and is featured on their new album “The Pool”.

Back in October 2017, I was clearing out the spam trap on my PC when I found Joseph Malik’s ‘Diverse Part 2’ LP trapped deep within an IT abyss. The first track I opened was ‘Love Bound’ – 4 bars in and I was hooked; 8 bars in and I was in pieces. I rang Joseph, we discussed the inspiration for the track and on the strength of ‘Love Bound’, I signed the entire ‘Diverse Part 2’ album.

It was then that I promised him that if I ever remixed the track, I would apply my 40 plus years of love and devotion to a genre known as ‘beat ballads’ and for those of you who aren’t deep soul aficionados, beat ballads reigned supreme in early 1960’s. Their walking paced rhythms were drenched in emotion featuring finely honed vocals from artists such as Roy Hamilton, Lou Johnson, Tommy Hunt and Freddie Scott. Their lyrics were marinated in a mixture of heartache, misery, broken promises, anguished teens sitting by phones that never rang, mascara’d teardrops running down cheeks - but above all, the pain of love gone bad. 

Side A showcases the original LP version mixed & produced by Joseph Malik and David Donnelly, who combine the elegance of Brian Wilson, De La Soul’s hip hop impudence and Prince Paul’s humour with Mr Malik’s raw delivery scouring your soul. Side B see Jo Wallace & Darren Morris take over the controls and their ‘North Street’ remix invokes the spirit of the Beach Boys, the genius of New York’s Brill Building outpourings, the Wrecking Crew sensibilities, the grandeur of Scott Walker and his brothers and a nod towards the musical giants, Burt Bacharach, Jerry Ragovoy and Teddy Randazzo.  Joseph Malik distills all of the above into one tiny droplet of truly monumental 21st Century Soul that is, ladies and gentlemen, ‘Love Bound’ – trust me, there won’t be a dry eye in the house.
