21 Days of Video Game Music April 2019

1st day of the #21DaysofVGM April challenge - going for some level select / map / world select music.  A short loop using an instrument I've never used before - a Duduk!

Day 2 of the #21daysofvgm challenge!  A shorter one today, but which took equally as long to make - a 'game over' theme! Feedback welcomed.

Day 3 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge! Was originally going for an escape theme for a sewer type of level, but it turned out a bit more spacey/sci fi then planned.  I wanted to have squelchy sounds, metallic hits, a driving bass and drums to create a sense of panic and stress, and I think I achieved that.  I also wanted to experiment with drum loops and samples, which I have never really used before.  Heavily influenced by the work of Darren Korb from his soundtracks to Supergiant games such as Bastion and Transistor.

VGM Day 3 - Escape from the sewer!

Day 4 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge.  A bit of RPG piano music for today - I see it playing alongside you discovering the villains troubled past, showing the player that things aren't as simple as black and white.  A bit Skies of Arcadia inspired!  I wanted to record the piano live, but in my sleepiness I kept playing it wrong... so I opted for midi instead!

Day 5 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge! A quick guitar piece I recorded on a Fostex multitracker that I haven't used in years.  I had friends over tonight so only had time to do something quick after they had gone, but I'm actually pretty happy with some of the ideas in this.  I imagine it accompanying the player as they travel across the world.

Day 6 of the #21daysofVGM challenge!  A short piano idea today for a random battle - would like to add other instruments another time.

Day 7 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge! I followed the idea of a  soundtrack for a "beautiful spring sunrise... as the farmer prepares for their day of work.

Day 8 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge.  This one started off as a castle theme, and ended up being some weird spooky clown funfair. Mixed only on headphones as I did this late at night... Enjoy!

Day 9 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge.  Brief today was to make piece inspired music from a random country - I got Malawi, so made short loop with shakers, acoustic guitar, kick drum and a piano melody in lieu of vocals.

Day 10 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge.  Tonight's composition is a short theme for when you go to sleep at an inn in a JRPG.  Almost sent myself off to sleep... ZZZzzzzzzzz

Day 11 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge! A short composition tonight - I imagine the player being asked to meet someone late at night  in the city in secret to learn some valuable information.

Day 12 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge.  Today's brief was "A gigantic, overwhelmingly-powerful, evil, destructive monstrosity is lumbering towards you." I tried to make the most horrible sounding thing I could imagine...

Day 13 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge!  Tried to create a whole piece by only using drums - ended up being a countdown timer for when the player is solving a timed puzzle!

Day 14 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge! Started with a salsa beat today, turned into a spy thriller, ended up being a fun little composition.

Day 15 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge!  Went for some ambient underwater level themed music today - some peaceful soft piano, synths and pads.

Day 16 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge! A retro victory theme tonight, basically made every instrument as low-fi as I could!

Day 17 of the #21daysofVGM April 2019 challenge!  No real vision for this, just started with a minor key and ended up in a major key.  Happy with the melodies I made.
