Synchronicity

EPM Podcast 144 comes from techno and electro legend The Advent. Cisco Ferreira, or ‘The Advent’, can be described in many ways: a musician, a pioneer, a sound designer, one persistent m*therf*cker, a rebel and more. Mostly though, The Advent is known for his interpretation of what we call Techno and Electro. It’s his passion for electro that we pick up here as Cisco brings a 20 tracxk electro jam session featuring the likes of Fleck E.S.C., Kronos Device, Bass Junkie, Plant43, Sub Sonic Force, Boris Divider and The Advent’s own track with Zein Ferreira (the clue’s in the surname) for our own 20 year celebrations.

Ever since young Portuguese Cisco discovered Acid House in the London clubs he frequented, his journey has been about making his mark on the electronic music scene. Or, as he recently put it himself: “I’ve been doing this for quite a few years and I’m not going anywhere.”

Fresh out of college, Cisco’s hunger for sound landed him a job as assistant sound-engineer in several recording studios. There he learned about the art of translating feelings to frequencies, while at the same time recording various high-profile artists from the world of Rock, Pop, Dance and Reggae. When acid label ‘Jack Trax’ moved in next-door, Cisco started recording for the likes of Adonis, Fingers Inc, Marshall Jefferson and Derrick May. These rendezvous sparked the inspiration for his first EPs on R&S and Fragile.

In 1994 Ferreira signed a record deal for 12 EPs and 3 albums together with Colin McBean. This was the beginning of an era during which the duo set a worldwide standard for high quality underground Electro and Techno. They hit the world with a refreshing sound, both as The Advent, and ‘G Flame (Cisco) and Mr G’, the alias Colin is still using. Nowadays The Advent is a solo project, bombarding crowds around the world with its trademark raw, energetic sound.

Continuing to take techno and electro into new realms via his Advent project and Kombination Research label, Cisco is also one of the co-founders of underground virtual club experience ‘Techno-Club’ where EPM also co-host the ‘Purple Room’ on a monthly basis.

We are back yet again with the second installment of our track series NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH bringing you 5 tracks from producers situated across the globe!

Firstly, we have an artist from New Zealand who invites you to sample his old school Detroit electro-based productions and that is Mokotron who says kia ora on his behalf. He comes in hot with his track "Reach Into The Darkness". This track is fast and bass-driven with seamless vocal improvisation adding to the tension of the track.

Next we have PTMS who we personally feel is one of electro's most exciting up-and-coming prospects. PTMS is a Helsinki-based artist making a name for himself with his heavy-hitting metallic sound. He has contributed to the compilation with his acidic track "Untitled".

Wemory is Frankfurt-based DJ & Producer who has a great taste in all music showcasing a lot of variation & styles in the mixes we've heard from him. He comes in with a beauty of a track titled "Hmmidnite Downride". We think this tune will go down a treat as its fresh and bouncy vibes really resonate with a lot of listeners.

Tom Place is up next, who has recently released an action-packed EP with our good friends over at Childsplay. His bass-driven dubstep influence and his futuristic electro style has all been merged into one track "Concrete Dub". This stinker of a tune is definitely not to be missed!

Last but not least is one of the scenes’ best kept secrets who we are sure is going to develop into a major player, Will Ortiz. We have high expectations for him due to his impeccable taste which is evident in his lovely synth-driven Detroit styled electro and ghettotech. He closes the show with his track “Chi Town”.

An international collaboration between two producers, which was born despite 9212km distance between Vilnius and Khabarovsk. 5ZYL is already known through his presence on Jensen Interceptor’s “International Chrome”, debut EP “Smoke These” and fresh “Main Goal” EP on PZ Records. Shit Control (Rodion Kirsanov) is an emerging producer from Khabarovsk city located at Amur river next to the most eastern border of China. Synthesizers lover and co-founder of the local underground music movement Tom Tom was already recognized by label CYBERJIT. The shape of “Krug” EP was started in Shit Control’s studio, topped up by 5ZYL in Vilnius, spiced up with False Persona remix in Bournemouth (UK) and mastered by Assembler Code in Sydney (Australia). Perfect testimony, that music is an international language without physical, cultural and worldview boundaries

@super-rhythm-trax make no secret of their love for '80s acid, techno, house and thereabouts - but this electro workout from @cardopusher feels like something different altogether. Full of bombastic string stabs, plastic electric bass and classic drum machine sounds, it's a short-but-sweet jam that could easily have soundtracked an American action-thriller-comedy-heist starring Emilio Estevez. And if that isn't authentic, I don't know what is.
