A steady and fulfilling path has been walked by Means&3rd aka Ben Marsden to get him to the creative space he currently occupies.

A Manchester resident since 2007 his musical education has been nurtured by the city and the experiences that have come with it. First beginning with his musical education, shortly followed by many years of promoting events and culminated in securing a spot behind the counter at one of the UK’s finest record stores, Eastern Bloc Records, where he currently curates the House and Techno sections.

A local favourite and regular of Manchester's White Hotel, Warehouse Project, Soup Kitchen, and the close quarters of Eastern Bloc's very own club night his DJ'ing style has matured over the years to convey a more textured, headier but no less driving vision of techno that is always cohesive within its layers and never struggles to provide a boundless dynamic, especially when given the chance to play extended sets where he truly thrives, a keen intuition developed from over 2 decades of DJing.

More recently he has zeroed in on his production skills with 2021 seeing the launch of his own imprint 'Unveiled Nuance' which will serve as a platform for his own productions and a true introduction to his sound as an artist. After years of meticulous analysis of his craft and the invaluable knowledge gained via the record shop, he has truly begun to sculpt his own sonic identity with a sharp attentiveness to detail.

It is with pleasure we want to introduce Gaia for SKIN’s latest podcast release. Gaia’s set was inspired by the constant movement of being, illustrating that within the fabric of space-time, a fragment of the universe unites in a singular presence... and thus, this narrative unfolds. Expect drones, distortion, syncopated percussion, and captivating melodies.

Born and raised in Manizales, Gaia arrives to recreate her project through nature and flow with organic, and anodyne sounds. Her greatest inspiration is found in the simplicity of the expression itself.

The young artist has permeated her project based on great musical inspirations such as: Polygonia, Luigi Tozzi, Feral, Orbe and more.

Pipiltzintzintli EP is designed as a concept-opus around the notion of psychedelia in electronic music. It is conceived exclusively using sounds from hardware synthesizers and modular systems.

 The repetitive motifs are chosen here for their organic and cerebral aspect; they act physically on the listener, the intention being to seek out sounds that act like active principles, like psychotrops. The idea is also to maintain a rather minimalist approach, with reduced use of percussive and/or melodic elements. Multilayering is used here to access a deeper sonic dimension, to tap into the inner self, a mental image like an imaginary, unconscious landscape. 

There's also an acidic dimension to the album, with references to a whole section of the history of repetitive electronic music: Warp's pre-2000s period with LFO and the distinctive sound of early Plastikman are particularly present here. The opus is rounded off by the unique touch of producer friends Gëinst, Inerit and Accou, who all revisit a track of their choice in their own way.
