In 2015, Compost Records reaches two landmarks: We celebrate our 20 years label anniversary and we release catalogue number 500, which reveals „COMPOST 500“, a memorable collection of brand new, unreleased tracks plus a lot of highlights and undiscovered pearls from the Compost vault of the past two decades.

COMPOST 500 is included as download code in the jubilee book „SOUL / LOVE – 20 Years Compost Records“, a 250-page book, packed with stories, about 450 fotos, memorabilia, anecdotes, music, covers and comments from ca. 60 companions, remixers, friends and artists, including illustrious characters like:

#1 FRESHLY COMPOSTED
The Freshly Composted serie (50, 100, 250, 300) always represents a musical snapshot of Compost Records, bringing together a variety of genres and vibes, all produced by some of the finest artists at the moment.
This “COMPOST 500 – Freshly Composted” episode includes previously unreleased tracks and remixes by Siren, Mark E, Mathias Schaffhäuser, Claudio Ricci & Megablast, SHOW-B, Robinn, Marbert Rocel, Emilie Nana and Compost Allstars (consisting of Christian Prommer, Beanfield’s Jan Krause, Roland Appel and Michael Reinboth) featuring Robert Owens and others.

#2 SOME MICHAEL REINBOTH FAVOURITES
In this chapter, our label head Michael Reinboth picked some of his fave tunes from the Compost back catalogue, including the works of Carl Craig, Âme, John Talabot, Todd Terje, Moonstarr, Jay Shepheard, Beanfield, A Forest Mighty Black and more. Of course there are much more, but those timeless tracks played a significant role in the Compost history.

#3 HIDDEN GEMS
The third chapter of COMPOST 500 points out a selection of top B-sides, secret weapons and undiscovered pearls from the Compost vault. You’ll find a lot of solid, but barely explored material here, such as tracks and remixes by Psychemagik, Henrik Schwarz, Zero dB, Move D, John Tejada, Christian Prommer, Lexx and more!

2015 saw Damian Lazarus create his most ambitious project to date in The Ancient Moons, producing a full length album ‘Message From The Other Side’ with a wide assortment of vocalists and collaborators from around the world. They went on to support Roisin Murphy on tour, gain acclaim from the likes of Dazed & Confused and Lazarus became the final coverstar of the year in the UK”s Mixmag magazine.

Now the tracks from ‘The Other Side’ have been reinterpreted by an assortment of stars, from techno stalwarts Juan Atkins & Kimyon Huggins, to German experimental talent Kölsch, and Acid Pauli’s sprawling fusion of weirdness. The original material is ploughed in new and surprising directions by Black Butter’s own Gorgon City and Mehmet Asian, resident at Berlin’s infamous Wilde Renate club.

Talent from Lazarus’ label Crosstown Rebels, including Francesca Lombardo, DrumTalk and Israeli trio Red Axes also produce their own visions for the music, all of which retain the mysticism of the original with added dancefloor appeal. The final four tracks revisit some of the biggest moments from the Moons to date, as the album revisits interpretations from Jamie Jones, Dixon, Serge Devant and &Me.

Co-produced by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine), The Ancient Moons was always a unique project, which has now been stretched to include the flavours of some of the most exciting artists shaping the musical landscape right now.

Recorded in Mexico, LA and London, ‘The Other Side’ features instrumentalists from Mozambique, Guinea, Pakistan, Egypt, America and even Mexico’s own Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.

Today's premiere sees rising Munich talent and Pooled Music signing SHOW-B rework a vintage cut from the label's boss, Ian Pooley. Issued as part of a remix pack that revisits Pooley's classic 1998 album 'Meridian', Schober's rework is a slow-building, melodic tech monster that's drench in atmospherics and clever production touches. Fans of the Innervisions school of thought should enjoy, and it sits pretty on the package alongside reworks by Bicep and Oskar Offerman.
