The fourth and final episode of our summer series comes from Somatic Rituals co-founder, Kombé.

The Basel based DJ and Producer channels a deep synergy between polyrhythmic hypnosis and tactile sound design, shaping a sonic landscape that pulses with kinetic urgency.

This mix combines field recordings from Nairobi with sub-heavy mutations, traversing a blend of organic drum patterns that sit in the liminal spaces between bass, percussion, and club experimentation.

𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 / 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀 / 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲?Kombé, he/him, Basel

𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘅I wanted to capture the sounds I’m currently into — a blend of organic drum patterns that sit somewhere between techno, bass, and dubstep. While recording, I was listening a lot to T++, whose shifting, intricate rhythms always strike me. The beginning also features field recordings from Nairobi, evoking a kind of big city energy — sometimes soothing, sometimes stressful.

𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰?For me, music has always been tied to identity — finding it and carving it through sound. My goal was never just to make functional club tracks, but to tell stories that resonate with me and my friends. The constant exchange with Mafou and Mukuna has probably shaped my music the most.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵?We founded Somatic Rituals with a clear vision for both the sound and the visual identity. We’re always drawn to specificity and rhythmic complexity, paired with a sound design–driven approach and a general interest in futurism. The idea is not to repeat what’s been done, but to push electronic music into new territory — music for the heads, for people who enjoy the weird and challenging. A strong identity linked to our fathers’ home continent, Africa, is also at the core of the label.

𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 / 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀? 𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗴𝗶𝗴𝘀, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽?We’ve got a really exciting label event in Amsterdam on October 18, with Low Jack, Toma Kami, and Jasmin joining us. Beyond that, I’m focusing on production and getting more new music out.

Paramat is an Eora-based DJ and co-founder of General Merchant, a label and event series central to the city’s underground scene. Known for sharp, thoughtful and unpredictable sets, he has hosted top local and international artists, released curated records, and is now teaming up with gi for a new regular party series.
In the current mix, he moves between genres, tempos and moods, weaving in pure dub and steppaz, some of his favourite sounds to blend, creating a fresh, subtly tense and surprising journey without overcomplication.
Over the past five years, he has played festivals like Soft Centre, Mode and Woodburnia, performed at clubs and third spaces across the east coast, and supported acts including CCL, Zuli, Loraine James, Helena Hauff and Objekt. His work has featured on platforms such as Animalia, The Lot Radio and Pure Space.

The recording is from a night at Ohm back in March put on by Kontinuum and New World Dysorder. I remember feeling so comfortable with the space and the crowd who were up for good sound system pushing fun going freely through everything from d&b and elektro to freetek and jungle. This week's animix comes from the incredible duo, Atrice (@atricemiras) - a mystical pairing who are part of a pool of insanely talented artists in the small Central European state, Switzerland -  there is a seemingly bursting ratio of talent per capita in this country!.

Drawing inspiration from everyday encounters and digital overstimulation, Atrice's music is refreshing, unique and modern - idm, experimental & bass driven - it somehow also sits perfectly amongst the class & purity of old school & solidified genres like dub, bass, techno - which is seen in their releases on labels like Illian Tape. 

On top of their productions and live sets, Lino & Pablo extend their craft with their on theme DJ'ing - always presenting new & exciting.. and always making perfect sense. For their animix, a beautiful journey through dub and beyond.
