The internet is different now vs 1996. it seems lonelier and it's definitely more expensive and intrusive. cable tv used to not have commercials on the channels; it's why u bought cable better cable no ads. Dial up cost ur parents hours of freedom because the telemarketers never made it on the line, and chat rooms were creepier and harder to find without extensive webcrawlers which weren't made yet. all hail Lycos, AltaVista, ask.com and YAHOO. geocities, tripod, and angelfire hosted all ur info for cheap.
