Biography

When it comes to earning your stripes, Lister Cooray is no exception to the rule. 

He took the plunge and dove head first into the combined world of music and business. Opting to run his own club events, selecting the best local DJ’s to play, and networking with respected industry figures helped boost his own DJ profile, playing at underground events across the city, notably Sunny, Darkbeat, Private Function, and Renaissance. As music evolved and genres fused over time, so did Lister's DJ sets. He found a new love for deeper sounding House & Techno which culminated in a number of bookings to warm up for an array of artists including support sets for John Digweed (UK), Audiofly (SPA), DJ T (GER), Martin Buttrich (GER), Andre Lodemann (GER), Lee Burridge (UK). Kevin Griffiths (UK), Laurent Garnier (FRA), Henry Saiz (SPA), Hernan Cattaneo (ARG) and many, many more artists from a diverse range of genres. 

Having built up a solid range of music and influences over the years, Lister's sets can now vary from Electronica/House at intimate club events to peak time festival sounds. His ability to adapt to different environments whilst maintaining his own personal integrity is key to his consistent quality bookings in a niche Australian market. Lister’s steady progression has led him to feature at the Rainbow Serpent, Strawberry Fields & Godskitchen Festivals, whilst also holding residencies with Balance, Fluidlife, ebb&flo and Darkbeat.

As well as honing his love for DJing, the original plunge into the business side of music ignited Lister's passion for Event Management. Managing "Fluidlife" with business partner John Sharp, saw his career jump to new levels with their club night 'Fluidlife Lunar', a monthly showcase of the world's leading artists. Hosted at renowned Melbourne venue: 'Onesixone', some of Fluidlife's featured acts include: Kevin Griffiths (UK), Silicone Soul (UK), Ian Pooley (GER), Dave Seaman (UK), Thomas Schumacher (GER) (voted for inthemix club night of the year). Fluidlife connected with Tom Pandzic, founder of ‘Balance Music’ to co-host international club events. This partnership proved to be a success; leading to Lister's further involvement in Balance Music, and ultimately playing a more pivotal role in Balance Music events in Melbourne. As a result, Lister will always consider Tom Pandzic both a mentor and a massive inspiration to his development in the industry.
In only their second year, Fluidlife managed to work with leading electronic brands Circoloco, Global Underground, Renaissance, Tsuba and Rework to name just a few. The Fluidlife philosophy of Disco to Techno allowed their concept to attract and develop a broad spectrum of music & DJ's, giving clubbers a unique experience each time they walked in. In 2013, John Sharp tragically passed away and the Fluidlife brand ultimately came to a halt, but it’s legacy will always live on through the lives of so many it touched. 

On the production side, Lister’s debut release was a remix with Darius Bassiray of Stuart Mckeown’s ‘Chemical Thrust’ on Melbourne based label ‘Text Book Music’. This was heavily charted by heavyweight Hernan Cattaneo (ARG), also featuring on his radio show. Upcoming releases are imminent via Lister's exciting new project - ‘Lo-Fi-45’ - with Kasey Taylor, head honcho of Vapour Recordings. Launching in April 2015, Lo-Fi-45 will push cutting edge electronic music from both untapped Australian artists and quality international acts. It will also be an opportunity for the Lo-Fi boys to showcase their own productions and remixes. To remember the passing of John Sharp, Lo-Fi-45 have dedicated their first EP ‘Departime/Fluidlife’ to the Fluidlife chief. Featuring remixes from Kevin Griffiths, Vincenzo, Florian Kruse, Darius Bassiray, Retza, and Damir Smith, it will be a special way for ‘Lo-Fi-45’ to showcase their label and also remember someone very special to both Lister & Kasey.

Inspired by the “naughties”, boldness; timidity of life, Clare composes music and spoken word; music by itself, mainly within the field of electronic music. Additionally, she creates visual artworks composed of text +image. 

Now on a solo journey, in the past Clare has collaborated with others & for many years was half of ‘lowkey+nude’ – a collaboration between herself and Michael Hogg (aka low key operations), she continues to evolve both creatively and personally within the realm of sound. 

Over the years, Clare has received support from the Music, Writing & Arts Industries where opportunities have allowed her, and her collaborations, to perform in clubs, festivals, out door techno parties & art galleries within Australia and Berlin.

Key performances include Berlin clubs; Support act for UK act Vince Watson Brisbane AU Tour; Big Day Out (Syd AU); Earthcore (Mel & Qld AU); Parklife (Bris AU); Elsewhere (Gold Coast AU); Empire Hotel (Bris AU); UBER (Bris AU); Valley Fiesta (Bris AU); Livid Festival (Bris AU); MAAP Festival (Bris AU); ADAPT Festival (Bris AU); The Brisbane Powerhouse; Institute of Modern Art (Bris AU); The Brisbane Writers Festival (AU); Qld Poetry Festival (AU), to name just a few.

Releases include CD, Vinyl, Online albums and compilations both Nationally and Internationally. Key releases include: Soulshift (New York / New Jersey), AltX (Colorado); Interference Records (Berlin); Smashbang (Melbourne AU), Dektek Records (Gold Coast AU), ABC’s Radio National Sound Quality (Sydney AU); Transcom (Brisbane AU), La La Land (Gold Coast AU); ADJF Mixtape Compilation by In the Mix (AU) as well independently releasing own work.

Support from local & international DJ’s, writers/producers who have played & remixed collaborated tracks. Tracks have received airplay on Triple Js MIX UP and Groove Train; ABC Radio National; NOVA; & other independent radio stations nationally & internationally.

In addition, Clare creates sound art+text installations as well as image+text artworks which have been exhibited in such art spaces as The Brisbane Powerhouse (AU); The Institute of Modern Art (AU) and Metro Arts(AU); Bars / Restaurants; private commissions.

Having started mixing in 2004, Jamie Coyle has recently become a resident DJ @ Melbournes Darkbeat events and has been priveledged enough to be on support duties for the Darkbeat 12th Birthday @ Brown Alley & the Darkbeat 13th Birthday earlier in 2016 featuring the legendary Guy J. In 2009 Jamie was lucky enough to play @ the infamous Sunny party @ Brown Alley rooftop. Other supporting dj line ups have included Sasha @ Prince of Wales, Dave Seaman, Henry Saiz, Matthias Meyer, Dj T, Apparat, Dj Hell, Joe Brunning, Jay Lumen, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Martin Buttrich, Eelke Kleijn & Anthony Pappa.
