The dance floor went zombie-apocalypse mental, everyone started a frenzied ripping and biting at each other, limbs, gizzards and giblets everywhere! We only got out in one piece by using the waiter with the Ferrero Rocher as a human shield. Cheers Ambassador!"

That event inspired me to get in the studio & make my own take on it. I'm a huge fan of Flodan, the UK grime artist & the vocals used here come from his sample pack. He's got a great voice & I tried to use it in a interesting way.'

This was my entry into the recent Blessed Madonna & Kylie Minogue 'Edge Of Saturday Night' remix contest. I took the tune & gave is retro electro feel with with a modern funky twist. I really like the remix & Kylie's vocal are amazing (as you'd expect). Needless to say I didn't win the comp & I'm fully expecting this remix to get taken down at some point so grab it for free whilst you can!

In 2015 I released ‘Old Skool Ting’ on the awesome Perth (Western Australia) based Rump Shaker Records. A great break beat label run by The Beatslappaz. I can’t quite believe it been a decade since it came out! Over the last couple of years I’ve been reconnecting with my UK rave culture roots, which lead to me putting together ‘My Rave Tape' (https://soundcloud.com/d-funk/myravetape), a mix that features my favourite & most influential tunes from my raving days in the 90s. Over the years made a few remixes of some of those tunes, like Awesome 3 - ‘Don’t Go' (which is also a free download: https://soundcloud.com/d-funk/d-funk-vs-awesome-3-dont-go-d-funk-mix-free-download). I decided to take another look at my tune ‘Old Skool Ting’ & give it a proper re-make. Switch up the beats, adding new synths & vocal samples. It bangs & now it can be yours for free!

Recently Triple J challenged producers to complete an unfinished Flume track, offering a blank canvas for any style. Hearing Flume's raw, heavy bass stems, I immediately gravitated towards a UK bass and grime direction, but with my signature breakbeat influence.

To capture that authentic UK vibe, I incorporated vocals from the newly released Flodan sample pack (yes, those vocals – but they fit perfectly). The result? A bass-bin shaking monster, packed with intricate sound design, complex basslines, and driving, energetic beats.

Again I wasn't lucky enough to win the Triple J competition so now I'm giving my version away for free. Not sure how long it will last before it gets taken down so grab it whilst you can!

I was meant to be doing 1 free down every month this year but recently life stuff got in the way & I got sidetracked. I'll do my best to catch up with a few extra freebies over the coming months. 

Here's one my tried & tested bangers from the vaults. I've played this so much over the years & it's always worked a treat! In fact I made this to play at Break da House, the breaks & electro night we used to do in UK so it's an older edit. I lost the original project file so this is the edit I've been using. As they say it's an oldie but a goodie! 

The original (Hey You) What's That Sound was released in 1999 & became one of the instant classic electro tracks of that period. Les Rythmes Digitales, who's actually called Stuart Price, also produced as Jacques La Cont (amongst others) & went on to produce for Madonna & they made the Abba sampling 'Hung Up'.

In the midst of mounting a comeback in the early 1990s, Redd died of pneumonia on May 1, 1992. Dance Music Report magazine reported that her death was AIDS-related.

Sharon Redd was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Gene Redd and Katherine Redd. Gene Redd was a producer and musical director at King Records, and her stepfather performed with Benny Goodman's orchestra. Her brother Gene Redd Jr. was a songwriter and producer for Kool & the Gang and BMP. Her sister Pennye Ford is also a singer with two albums to her credit and known for her work as the main singer for Snap!.

She began her recording career with four singles in 1968 for the United Artists label, three written and all four produced by songwriter and record producer Bobby Susser. Susser chose the Hank Williams song "Half As Much" to be Redd's first single. Redd's vocals, against Susser's heavy-bass track, made her presence very quickly known to R&B radio stations.

Redd, as a budding actress, got a major break when she starred in an Australian production of the rock musical Hair. She was among a troupe of young African-American imports to the Sydney production, a group which notably included Marcia Hines. Redd appeared in the production from its June 6, 1969 premiere through 1971.

As Redd was becoming famous in Australia, she was interviewed by Barry Sloane on a 1971 episode of "GTK". Her popular adverts for Amoco led to her own television special. Redd and Hair co-star Teddy Williams were asked to leave Australia by the Immigration Department in April 1971 for reasons they believed were race-motivated.  Aside from Hair, Redd also appeared in Ti-Jean and His Brothers and, in 1974, traveled to London to star in an American production of The Wedding of Iphigenia. In 1977 Redd played the role of Sherrye in the U.S. television sitcom "Rhoda".[9][10] 1978 also saw Redd feature as a guest in the musical Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

In the mid-1970s, Bette Midler was looking to replace Merle Miller and Gail Kantor, both of whom had left after Midler's 1973 tour to pursue their own interests. Midler auditioned over 70 performers, but Redd landed the job, becoming one of Bette's Harlettes. Aside from performing as a Harlette, Redd also provided backing vocals for Carol Douglas ("Burnin'" and "Night Fever") and Norman Connors ("You Are My Starship"). Having ended their association with Midler, Redd, Charlotte Crossley, & Ula Hedwig released an LP, Formerly of the Harlettes, in late 1977.

In 1979, Redd recorded the disco hit "Love Insurance," released by Panorama Records under the name Front Page, her own vocals going uncredited. But she soon signed a recording contract with Prelude Records, and Redd became the label's most successful artist. Her first album, 1980's self-titled Sharon Redd, was closely followed by two more—Redd Hott (1982) and Love How You Feel (1983). Redd placed several songs on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, including "Beat the Street," "In the Name of Love," and "Love How You Feel."

After these releases, Sharon Redd returned to her successful career as a background vocalist, most notably with the group Soirée, which also included among its members Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Brown. Following the UK top 20 success of a re-recorded "Can You Handle It", she recorded a single entitled "All the Way to Love", with Les Adams. The song remains unreleased. This was to be her last solo recording.



In 1993, Pennye Ford dropped the 'e' from her name and released the album Penny Ford, which featured a duet with her sister entitled "Under Pressure."

Wrekz Hz - High Riders  (FREE DOWNLOAD IN DESCRIPTION)

Sydney-based, British born DJ, D-Funk has amassed a fair few achievements in his 25-years on the decks. Making his club debut at The Depot in Bristol in 1995, he’s gone on to DJ all over the world, playing notable sets at Space Ibiza and Ministry Of Sound and released on labels including Sunday Best and Bombstrikes. 

Getting his first set of decks at 14, Doug initially fell for the sounds of jungle and techno before a night dancing to house icon Tony De Vit in 1997 turned him towards the slinkier sounds of house music. 

His DJ career began to take off during his time at university in Wolverhampton where he started to pick up gigs at the Canal Club and Mezzanine, playing alongside DJs including Joey Negro, Mr Fingers, Scott Bond and Lisa Lashes, before a move to the South-Coast town of Bournemouth led him to eventually start his own night ‘Break Da House’ in 2004. 

The night took off, attracting big names including The Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs and eventually led to D-Funk’s first release, the ‘Electrotek’ EP after Dub Pistols headlined one night and Barry Ashworth from the band decided to release Doug’s music on his Westway label. The track found its way onto a TV ad in Portugal, as well as becoming a mainstay on Kiss FM’s breakbeat chart and gave Doug the confidence to pursue a career as a producer as well as a DJ, eventually leading to releases on Adapted Records and Ghetto Funk among countless other labels over the next 15 years. 

Moving to Sydney Australia in 2009, Doug started his label Upstart Music, releasing his own productions alongside tracks from the likes of Crackerz & Jam, Niko & Lyall and Rogue Robot and later started the funk label Grits N Gravy alongside friend and funk producer Philly Blunt, with the label winning the ‘Best Label’ award at Perth Dance Music Awards in 2010. 

Since living in Sydney, Doug has held down residencies at The World Bar and The Standard/Middlebar for the best part of a decade, as well as regular slots at Sash, Ivy, Goros, Hugos and many others. He’s played events for high profile companies such as Blackberry, Telstra, Jagermeister,  Sydney Cricket Ground & Saatchi & Saatchi. But there was still demand for him back on the side of the world and he regularly returned to Europe to play at Space Ibiza (including a set at the penultimate night of Carl Cox’s Revolution party) as well as touring in the UK, Europe, Asia and Canada. 

Now 25 years into his career, Doug is about to mark the 10th anniversary of his label Grits ‘N’ Gravy, with a compilation due this year mixed by himself and Philly Blunt, and has been busy producing house, hip hop and nu-disco with his current production partner Mr Doris.
