Fort Knox Five’s longtime friends and brothers in funk, Vancouver-based The Funk Hunters have delivered one of the baddest floor-rocking remixes ever!  This track debuted in the Fractal Forest at the 2015 Shambhala Music Festival where it electrified the masses and brought the crowd to a fever pitch. The Funk Hunters have injected their signature sound into “Whatcha Gonna Do” with big drops, huge hooks, and enough glitch and disco to make you put your hands up!  This is a guaranteed banger full of West Coast synths and chunked out beats. Easy to see why this one is already a staple of The Funk Hunters amazing live sets.

The next “Whatcha Gonna Do” Remix is by Father Funk, the Leeds, UK based producer known for his clever remixes and smashing edits.  Father Funk’s remix begins with Rob Myers’ retro wah-wah guitar and Mustafa Akbar’s soulful party chants then quickly escalates into a wobbly, bass heavy, butt-shaking glitch-hop monster! Hold on tight as Father Funk breaks it down, takes it back to the original soul vibe and then finishes strong with a deep groove.

Stick Em Up Funk

It’s apparent how much fun Qdup and EVeryman had while writing the lyrics for Joyride. They were on tour driving between gigs and pulled inspiration for being on a Joyride to the party. For these remixes, Qdup commissioned a few good friends to hop in the whip and reimagine the ride. First up is old friend and fellow Washington, DC native Wes Smith who relocated to San Diego, CA. Rusty Cravers is the new Future House side project of Vancouver’s Wood n Soo who are good friends from western Canada and part of the Danio Management family.

You may know Wes Smith from his releases on Punks Music and his own Juice Recordings imprint, Wes has really made a name for himself in recent years with his remixes and original production. This is the second Wes Smith Remix on Fort Knox Recordings, and his musical diversity shines well on this remix as he pumps up the tempo to a Jacking Funky House vibe. Wes Smith let EVeryman’s lyrics lead the track and drops a huge 808 fueled breaks breakdown in the middle which is sure to set the dance floor ablaze!

Rusty Cravers push the tempo up as well and remixed Joyride into a bass-driven Future House banger destined to wreck dance floors worldwide. Laden with infectious dark keyboard leads and more dubbed out vocals let their clean production style come through. Huge horn stabs push a driving house beat and a devastating sub bass that can flex any sound system set the tone for their trip to the party!

Qdup returns to Fort Knox Recordings with a new single first imagined on the Playa at Burning Man. During his first trip to Black Rock City Qdup performed a special hip-hop showcase at Funky Town and invited MC’s to rock his set and bring the cypher to the desert. San Francisco b-girl and Hip-Hop aficionado Awoke was one of the MC’s that appeared out of the dust and blessed the mic that afternoon and caught the ears of the crowd, inspiring this collaboration. “Sonic Drop” captures the fun of that impromptu Hip-Hop jam in the desert. This tune pops and locks from start to finish, with an infectious vibe that invites the party to get down on the dancefloor like Awoke and Qdup did that day!

FREEFAT#7: Sonale Vs Beatles - Twisted Shot [Free Download]

Sydney-based, British born DJ, D-Funk has amassed a fair few achievements in his 25-years on the decks. Making his club debut at The Depot in Bristol in 1995, he’s gone on to DJ all over the world, playing notable sets at Space Ibiza and Ministry Of Sound and released on labels including Sunday Best and Bombstrikes. 

Getting his first set of decks at 14, Doug initially fell for the sounds of jungle and techno before a night dancing to house icon Tony De Vit in 1997 turned him towards the slinkier sounds of house music. 

His DJ career began to take off during his time at university in Wolverhampton where he started to pick up gigs at the Canal Club and Mezzanine, playing alongside DJs including Joey Negro, Mr Fingers, Scott Bond and Lisa Lashes, before a move to the South-Coast town of Bournemouth led him to eventually start his own night ‘Break Da House’ in 2004. 

The night took off, attracting big names including The Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs and eventually led to D-Funk’s first release, the ‘Electrotek’ EP after Dub Pistols headlined one night and Barry Ashworth from the band decided to release Doug’s music on his Westway label. The track found its way onto a TV ad in Portugal, as well as becoming a mainstay on Kiss FM’s breakbeat chart and gave Doug the confidence to pursue a career as a producer as well as a DJ, eventually leading to releases on Adapted Records and Ghetto Funk among countless other labels over the next 15 years. 

Moving to Sydney Australia in 2009, Doug started his label Upstart Music, releasing his own productions alongside tracks from the likes of Crackerz & Jam, Niko & Lyall and Rogue Robot and later started the funk label Grits N Gravy alongside friend and funk producer Philly Blunt, with the label winning the ‘Best Label’ award at Perth Dance Music Awards in 2010. 

Since living in Sydney, Doug has held down residencies at The World Bar and The Standard/Middlebar for the best part of a decade, as well as regular slots at Sash, Ivy, Goros, Hugos and many others. He’s played events for high profile companies such as Blackberry, Telstra, Jagermeister,  Sydney Cricket Ground & Saatchi & Saatchi. But there was still demand for him back on the side of the world and he regularly returned to Europe to play at Space Ibiza (including a set at the penultimate night of Carl Cox’s Revolution party) as well as touring in the UK, Europe, Asia and Canada. 

Now 25 years into his career, Doug is about to mark the 10th anniversary of his label Grits ‘N’ Gravy, with a compilation due this year mixed by himself and Philly Blunt, and has been busy producing house, hip hop and nu-disco with his current production partner Mr Doris.
