Over the summer Australian funk and breaks producer Kenny Beeper reached out to Fort Knox Five with an idea, could the veteran beat maker turn an original hip hop acapella about the love of sneakers into a proper radio-friendly, toe-tapping, sing-along anthem? FK5 immediately set out to do just that and the two producers collaborated back and forth all summer long resulting in “My Nikes”, a rollicking slab of fun!

Its not often that you get inspired to make a whole song just from listening to the vocals, but Tha Fun Police (Cam aka MC Sureshock, Luke aka Snuze and Kenny Beeper) along with the snappy additional vocals from Claire G, created such a hooky track with their rapid fire, party rockin’ raps that it was inevitable that an anthem was born.

The inception of "My Nikes" can be traced back to a jingle that Luke composed while singing in the shower, contemplating which shoes to wear before embarking on a demanding day of skydiving. The track started in the studio, and the guys soon called in, the talented Claire G., who seamlessly completed the puzzle with her catchy lyrics and flow. The vocals were fresh, but in dire need of a classic inspired hip hop funk instrumental which Kenny Beeper and FK5 cooked up with extra sauce!

Not satisfied with only doing the hip hop remix, Fort Knox Five reworked “My Nikes” with a 4/4 house beat delivering a mid-tempo Disco remix that pushes the beats and bass into a stomping ‘hands in the air’ tune designed to move the dancefloor. This one was tested out all festival season and it’s a surefire hit, with crowds who have never heard the track singing along with it by the end.

Included is a clean radio edit for those of you who need your tunes scrubbed up for public consumption. Get ready to “bounce around center stage in your Nikes” with this one!

Just in time for the end of the year comes a bonus stocking stuffer from Fort Knox Five. We heard you guys loud and clear so we put together a DJ friendly package of the More Disco Remix of “My Nikes” that has been rocking dance floors & airwaves since the summer festivals.

On the original mix, Kenny Beeper and FK5 crafted a radio-friendly, sing-along anthem which had the sneaker heads jumpin! Looking to up the energy of the original hip hop mix Fort Knox Five reworked “My Nikes” with a four to the floor house beat, delivering a mid-tempo Disco remix that pushes the beats and bass into a legit stomping ‘hands in the air’ tune designed to move the dance floor. This one was tested out all festival season and it’s a surefire hit, with crowds who have never heard the track singing along with it by the end.

The More Disco Remix has been featured on numerous DJ charts, club mixes and radio shows and seems to be picking up some steam. There is no doubt that infectious disco groove has some serious swagger! Available for the first time will be a full instrumental version, and a brand new radio edit to drop in your sets!

Recently Triple J challenged producers to complete an unfinished Flume track, offering a blank canvas for any style. Hearing Flume's raw, heavy bass stems, I immediately gravitated towards a UK bass and grime direction, but with my signature breakbeat influence.

To capture that authentic UK vibe, I incorporated vocals from the newly released Flodan sample pack (yes, those vocals – but they fit perfectly). The result? A bass-bin shaking monster, packed with intricate sound design, complex basslines, and driving, energetic beats.

Again I wasn't lucky enough to win the Triple J competition so now I'm giving my version away for free. Not sure how long it will last before it gets taken down so grab it whilst you can!

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is happy to introduce a new artist to the scene: Baxsta as he serves up a smooth bass funk banger with remixes from BBP stable producers Stabfinger, Sonale & Pecoe.

Baxsta was first featured on BadboE’s Hard Times’s EP and as a co-producer on Boydex’s Funky Freak track that dropped last year on BBP. Now he’s ready so shine with his own solo jam Wish as well as a joint production with Boydex called Don’t Mess With On My Thing.

On remix duties on the Wish jam we find Stabfinger doing his funky thing with some bass house vibes while Sonale and Pecoe takes a funky breaks approach to the Wish track.

The catchy bass arrangement shines through across all tracks on this EP from the original’s progressive basslines to Pecoe’s slab bass to Sonale’s long slung bass.

My set from Friday night at Disco Dreamland this year at Freezerburn. Safe to say this is one of the most coveted and passionate sets I've put together in quite some time, most notably in the house genres. The level of love, passion, joy and pride that went into this mix is directly fueled by my equal feelings for Disco Dreamland. This stage has given back to me a purpose and love that I haven't felt or had in my life for a number of years in terms of festival and stage production, and I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am to be a part of its creation and expansion. HUGE ups to my dear friends James (Wax Theory) and Alex (Work Party) for bringing me into the fold and giving me a place at the table for this music stage each year, I can not wait to see us grow even further in the years to come 🪩🪩🪩

That all being said, I hope this mix helps many of you relive that evening, and for those who missed it, I hope it gives you a clear picture of what an evening of dreaming with us feels like ⭐

Disco Dreamland 2025

Sydney-based, British born DJ, D-Funk has amassed a fair few achievements in his 25-years on the decks. Making his club debut at The Depot in Bristol in 1995, he’s gone on to DJ all over the world, playing notable sets at Space Ibiza and Ministry Of Sound and released on labels including Sunday Best and Bombstrikes. 

Getting his first set of decks at 14, Doug initially fell for the sounds of jungle and techno before a night dancing to house icon Tony De Vit in 1997 turned him towards the slinkier sounds of house music. 

His DJ career began to take off during his time at university in Wolverhampton where he started to pick up gigs at the Canal Club and Mezzanine, playing alongside DJs including Joey Negro, Mr Fingers, Scott Bond and Lisa Lashes, before a move to the South-Coast town of Bournemouth led him to eventually start his own night ‘Break Da House’ in 2004. 

The night took off, attracting big names including The Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs and eventually led to D-Funk’s first release, the ‘Electrotek’ EP after Dub Pistols headlined one night and Barry Ashworth from the band decided to release Doug’s music on his Westway label. The track found its way onto a TV ad in Portugal, as well as becoming a mainstay on Kiss FM’s breakbeat chart and gave Doug the confidence to pursue a career as a producer as well as a DJ, eventually leading to releases on Adapted Records and Ghetto Funk among countless other labels over the next 15 years. 

Moving to Sydney Australia in 2009, Doug started his label Upstart Music, releasing his own productions alongside tracks from the likes of Crackerz & Jam, Niko & Lyall and Rogue Robot and later started the funk label Grits N Gravy alongside friend and funk producer Philly Blunt, with the label winning the ‘Best Label’ award at Perth Dance Music Awards in 2010. 

Since living in Sydney, Doug has held down residencies at The World Bar and The Standard/Middlebar for the best part of a decade, as well as regular slots at Sash, Ivy, Goros, Hugos and many others. He’s played events for high profile companies such as Blackberry, Telstra, Jagermeister,  Sydney Cricket Ground & Saatchi & Saatchi. But there was still demand for him back on the side of the world and he regularly returned to Europe to play at Space Ibiza (including a set at the penultimate night of Carl Cox’s Revolution party) as well as touring in the UK, Europe, Asia and Canada. 

Now 25 years into his career, Doug is about to mark the 10th anniversary of his label Grits ‘N’ Gravy, with a compilation due this year mixed by himself and Philly Blunt, and has been busy producing house, hip hop and nu-disco with his current production partner Mr Doris.
